Default Lax commuters

I've been based in LAX for 17 years and currently stay at the Hacienda when I have to breakdown and get a room. I don't have to do reserve so I don't usually need a room for more than two nights a month or so. The airline rates start at $55 and tax. They will drop you off or pick you up at Imperial or cargo or whatever. They have a 24 hour shuttle service with a Supermarket across the street.
Howard Johnsons is cheaper but the neighborhood is iffy imo.

Here's an idea.... once the list does come out, we should all trade numbers, or use the alpa board maybe, and do a hotel room share. I use to live in LA and still visit sometimes, traffic is horrible, parking at Aport I hear is $$.
I wish I had good news, but I haven't been able to find any.

I've heard the same thing. I'm hoping that the day line thing will allow me the upgrade since many won't want it. I do believe that once more a/c go online in LAX, there will be more variety with some overnights. This probably won't make a difference for me though since I know that I'll be junior.

The way I figure it now, I'll be using all the money (and probably more) from my upgrade just to support the commute. That is what I have come to expect. However, I am eager to get the coveted PIC time that everyone desires and do plan to get back to ATL as soon as possible, bringing up another question.....

From what I can read in our contract, even though you are SEAT LOCKED for 1yr after upgrade, you are NOT base locked. Is this the way everyone else understands it? Which technically means that if I can hold it and an ATL position opens up just a fews months later that I can actually bid it.

Default Hotels and Priceline....

Anyone commuting ever use Priceline.com to get a dirt cheap rate?

I know that I've used them outside of the biz to get 3-4 star hotels for $35/night. You are able to bid for the "area" (small geographical areas), just not the actual hotel........

yep, you are interpreting that correctly, but I think they have done base locks before and it got battled out in a greviance, but don't quote me on that.

Another thing for you to consider is, how many people that make Capt senior to you have the same plan? Also, don't forget you need the IACO standards... I forget, but I think it is like 3,500 total, etc.
Make sure you have a flight time summary, bid preference, and Class 1 medical on file (I mean call and check, BM lost mine years ago!) and then spin the wheel.

Hmmm, that's interesting (about the base locks). I'll have to check into that closely.

I've got the ICAO, so it won't be a problem. Better update my Flight Time Summary though, just in case....
