Does Eagle force newhires to resign seniority
And if anyone has anything to add feel free. I'm currently stuck as a furloughee in the Mesaba crapstorm. Also there is no training contract, right?

Yes...you will have to surrender your number. You can't have 2 ALPA numbers.
And no contract. |
What does ALPA have to do with it? I believe I have had the same number for 20 years and three different airlines. Some companies, like United, will take a resignation letter and leave it in a desk drawer so you can come back.

And no contract. Some airlines ask that a pilot being hired resign their seniority rights at another carrier in hopes of better commitment/longer retention after training/better employee/less likly to walk away if treated poorly... But those are reason that a caompany chooses. Some ALPA carriers have brainstormed on a variety of seniority retention ideas to improve career progression. In the past you may find a remote example of the local pilot group, represented by ALPA, asking pilots to commit and resign a seniority right, that is noit the norm but does go to show the autonomy that individual pilot groups have as members of the national association. In addition, many carriers will not take a letter request seriously and instead welcome back a pilot when recalls occur. |

And no contract. Maybe you can't have two Alpa membership numbers (not sure even that's true, but you certainly CAN have two seniority numbers from Alpa airlines. I know several people personally who have multiple alpa seniority numbers. Don't EVER resign your seniority number for ANY reason, airlines are a dynamic business any promises they make you they won't hold themselves to, "business circumstances have changed " they'll say. Training contract sure, if I leave before it's up.. shame on me. Want my previous seniority number? I don't think so. |
Well there you go...I was wrong. I guess you can keep your number then. Good luck.
