In my own personal circumstances, I would bring home $800 more a month or so. I figured that using 95 hours in the right seat of the 70 vs. 80 hours in the left seat of the 50. The 80 hours is assuming I would be on reserve and bring in around 5 hours of premium. For me, having a crashpad to save money, the commute would be worth it from ATL.

Yes, but it also depends on the lines that are built for LAX. I suspect that with only 2-3 initial a/c and the fact that there will be some current CPT's bid this, most of those who wish to upgrade to LAX won't be privee to a great line. Then again, none of us really knows what is going to happen or even if any of us current f/o's will get the award. Heck, for all that we know it may very well go senior.......hope not though.....

Actually, that is about the same figure that I've been hearing from others as well. The commute will probably eat up a good chunk of that though. Crashpads aren't going to be cheap.........I'm glad I like Ramen Noodles.......

I can live for 4 days out of one lunchbox....so spending a lot of money on food while in LAX won't be a big deal. I read somewhere that a guy in LAX stays at the Hacienda Hotel there by LAX. I looked it up on the net and it looks pretty nice....alot better than alot of the places ASA sticks us in. He said he gets it for $55 I believe. Assuming we're all confortable with our sexualities (I'm married with a child), shacking up for less than $30 a night with free transportation to and from LAX might be something to consider. A group of us could get each other's numbers and or schedules and find out who's going to be in town that night(s) and split the cost. At, say 3 nights a week, 4 weeks a month, that's $360....about what we'd be paying for a crashpad. We'll have to have our own wheels to and from the pad too, which of course, is even more money. We used to do this in SYR when I was with Allegheny and none of us had a crashpad at the time. It seemed to work well then.

I have stayed at the Hacienda before (personal business) and the hotel is pretty nice, it does have a shuttle, but the "cheap airline rooms" are o.k. at best. Fortunately, ASA has conditioned us to some crap rooms, so it won't be a big deal, they all look the same with your eyes closed!
There is fast food, chain rest., and convienence stores within short walking distance, as far as the neighborhood goes, we might want to watch over our female pilots/flt atts, but over all not bad. Don't know about there parking.

Oh, and the ever important, they have a bar, kinda spooky though.... serious twilight zone cafe, but the beer is cold.

Cold Beer is all that is needed to mask an unsightly room (or even stench for that matter).

With everything said, does anyone know where to find current good lists of available LAX 'crashpads'? I'll be heading out that way next month and will need a place for a while until I can eventually move out there.

There were a couple behind the Hacienda in the $150 to $180 range (hot bed style). Most had Cable and Hi-Speed Internet. We all used the Hacienda shuttle but were careful not to "bump" paying Hacienda customers as to not cause management to cancel this freebie. We made sure to TIP EVERY TIME to ensure drivers to "welcome" us aboard. They new what was up for the most part. This enabled us to not need a car which worked out nicely. It has been two years since I was out there so I hope things haven't changed too much.
