Pilot numbers
With all this talk of "super-regionals," I thought it would be interesting to look at some pilot numbers at each airline. This list includes all pilots on the senority list, though I've listed most airlines with significant furloughs (+10% or so,) in the details. (a = active, f = furloughed.) The data is from the APC main site, but I've rounded the numbers in most cases, as staffing numbers change month to month, and some of the data (particulary for smaller/less well known companies) is older and of questionable accuracy.
Skywest holdings is leaving all the other regionals in the Dust. They are a larger pilot group than Airways, Southwest, Jetblue, or Airtran to name a few. For all the Whailing about Republic, they are just under 3000 pilots (I can't find the numbers for how many midwest pilots there are, so that's what the ? is for.) For all the news surrrounding the TSA/compass purchase, TSA holdings has less than 1100 pilots on their collective lists. That still makes them smaller than Eagle, Comair, and Mesa. Here is the Data: Legacy: Delta: (12,100) United/Continental: (12,500: 10,900A/1600F) (7700 +4800) American: (11,000: 8700A/1900F) US airways: (5200) Alaska: (1450) Hawaiian: (445) Large LCC: Southwest: (5800) Jetblue: (2000) Airtran: (1600) Small LCC: Allegiant: (325) Spirit: (500) Sun Country: (150) USA 3000: 130 (65a/65f) Virgin America: (390) Pax Charter: World (500) Omni Air (245) North American (190) Ryan Int’l (145: 110a/35f) Miami Air (100) Xtra airways (50) Regional holding companies: Skywest Holdings: (7070) -Skywest (2800) -ASA/Expressjet (1670/2600 = 4270) Republic Holdings: (2700 + ?) -Republic/Shuttle/Chataqua: 2000 -Frontier/Midwest (718 + ?) Pretty interesting material thanks for putting it together.

Absolutely brutal numbers in terms of furloughs. 5000. Pilot shortage anyone? Thanks for putting this info together.
Its actually higher than that, as I didn't include Alaska, UPS, or the fractionals. It is still lower than is was at the peak post 9/11, though, and 70% of the furloughs belong to UAL and AMR.
Any guess on how many AMR/UAL go back if offered? Pure speculation I know but I imagine alot of them have moved on.
Good point I think a decent amount would say to hell with it or have moved on to greener fields.
Keep in mind a good chunk of those furloughed numbers might be counted twice since a lot of them are probably at some other carrier during the unpaid time off from UAL or AMR.
As far as I'm aware Delta still owns Comair and American still owns Eagle. That significantly changes the size of those holding companies, but the numbers are interesting, nevertheless.
