Half the Work, All the Pay
The Nav will pay for your PCS but if you have to move on your own It's a UHaul and a couple of TED's looking for a few extra duckets. I'm single so why do I have so much crap! Factor in detachments and deployments and now you are paying for a storage room with carpet, A/C, and running water. You could sublet with enough lead time though...I think the axiom still applies, the higher the aircraft's cool factor, the crappier the duty station, but what do I know I've gone from SanDog to Honolulu!

Why not just rent an apartment where you are based instead of the headache of commuting or having to bunk with 10 other people? Even in the crappiest of cities, there has to be some part of it that is OK to live in.

Are you AT ALL familiar with that airlines (especially regionals) pay these days? Rent/utilities for an apartment you only use a few times a month plus rent or a mortgage at your actual home is far more than most of us can reasonably afford.

Besides, I'd rather own my residence and build equity for my own financial planning than costantly be moving and paying WAY to much in rent all the time.
