Six Days Straight
Just wondering how many airlines schedule 6 days straight?
At PSA it can because of the blend (Transition) from one month to the next. Or because of holidays, training etc... |
TSA does it.
9E does back to back 3 days, 4 days followed by 2 days. sometimes they release you in the morning come back that night after you get your 10 hours in base.
Piedmont does it
Mesa does it and will try to DH on day 7
Republic does it.
ASA can do it to reserves

Eagle does it in transitions if you bid 2 lines that could result in a 6day, but no regularly scheduled 6 days for lineholders. They do it to reserves though.
SkyWest does it. Especially if you bid bottom 50% it happens just about every month
Just as I suspected. This profession rocks.
"Six Days On the Road." Don't know who sings it, but it's a great country song.
Sawyer Brown re-recorded it a few years back. Don't know the original
At XJT, I've done NINE consecutive days. A 4 day, 1 day, and a 4 day. But just as everybody else has mentioned, it happened in the transition and I was line holder.
Some of our reserve blocks have six straight days of duty. |
At XJ, I had a six day, then 1 day off, then another six day, 1 day off, then a four day.
Horizon does it. But only every chance they get!!!
GLA does it. They seem to have a love of 6 on, 1 off, 6 on schedules. It's ok though because we don't work as hard as most pilots since our planes have less seats.

The longest pairings at SkyWest are 5-days (which aren't that common), but I think our PBS defaults to 6 on 2 off. That obviously doesn't work when there is only about 80 hours per line holder to go around though, and can be changed by inserting your own line preferences.

PBS sucks (especially for the bottom half of the list)
To the OP - the proper question should be: Who doesn't schedule 6 days in a row? |
Here, its known as "Comair Standard". Our contract gives us 11 days off, a group of 3 hard days and a group of 4 hard days, along with 4 movable soft days.
The norm here seems to be: 6 on, 1 off, 6 on, 3 off, 3 on, 4 off, 3 on, 1 off, 2 on, 2 off (or something close). The best ones are when your last two weeks of a month are 6 on-1 off-6 on, then your next month starts with 6 0n-1 off-6 on! Oh well, 800-900 of us won't have to worry about it much longer, I guess:mad: |

Comair, 6 days on reserve or back to back 3 days (or other permutation of trips) for line holders.
Compass does 6 days as well.
Must have 2 days off between RSV blocks, but you can waive it if you so choose. No one does. |
I've done 10 days. I did get 24 hours off in the middle though. Ended one trip at 430pm started next day at 500pm. And I'm a commuter. Basically, you can work all month long.
United does for domestic reserves. First time I got a six day, I longed for the good old days at TSA with a 4 day limit.

6 on then 1 or 2 off before another few days is hell...especially for commuters. I 've done 6 on 1 off then 5 on and didn't commute home for the one day and let me tell you...it sucked!
I'm on a 6 day right now for Skyw. PBS assigned a 5 day at the end of Oct and in the Nov bid added a local to the first day of the month - I bid to 1/3d in Den but we are too short fo's. I'm going home for one night and commuting back in for the local.

Many international airlines schedule 10-15 day trips. You get your required 24 hours free of duty each seven days at a layover station.
Joe Unlike an "international" or ACMI carrier, a "regional" will have you work EVERY day of the 6-12 duty days. Often times at max duty days with minimum efficiency. Making your "rest" periods all but useless as you may not have much down time relax and refocus on your job. Or conversely, long "rest" periods in crappy hotel locations that offer NONE of the amenities/attractions that the layovers of "international"/ACMI carriers do. |
Not to mention a 12 day on the 747 or 777 will typically be all you need to do for the entire month. At the regional level you'll get to work 12 of 13 and still have another 9 days of work to go for the month....
