Let's just settle this right now:
ANY news channel on the TV is a full time participant in the drive by media. Each one has a different political agenda, but they are all the same level of retarded. That level is off the charts. Anyone who tries to justify otherwise is just fooling themselves. |

France's system is a world away from the UKs which is a world away from Sweden's which is a world away from most of the other european systems. Europe isn't a country yet, and believe it or not there is still a lot of contrast between governments and government run programs |

Is anyone going to reveal how much 2nd year pay at TSA is?
I know that at my regional airline, while first year pay was very low, it increased considerably the next year. At some point, we'll upgrade to captain and it'll increase significantly again. While I can see how exciting and sensational it is to draw direct comparisons to starting pay for each group...using that comparison to suggest that their compensation is similar is tilting toward disingenuous. Besides, why should it surprise anyone that a government monopoly's employees are over-compensated? I personally wouldn't work there for any amount of money... |
Politics removed. Please keep on the forum issue of TSA pay. Thanks.
|
You are paid for the value you bring to a job. That amount is negotiated with the employer when hired or you ask for a raise. In our case we use collective bargaining to establish our pay rates. Do not complain about your current wages. They are set by you and your piers. If you want more money, vote no on the next CBA and be willing to go on strike.
TSA pay and Pilot pay are not connected and should be compared. If you as a regional pilot have a problem with being paid poorly after thousands of dollars in education and years of labor, don’t do it. Go work for the TSA. As for the TSA becoming Union, my thoughts on that are the same as every government union. First, the must be regulated in the same sense that the ATC workers are under, that there may not be a strike, ever. Second, let them negotiate their CBA with their employer, us. Put the entire thing with pay raises and money allocations and budget up for a vote in November. As for the TSA going with an AFL-CIO union, I protest. On an overnight that has the actual communist network, RT, Richard Trumka was touting how we must move away from our broken republic and progress to one world governance and socialism. That in my book sounds pretty scary. |

You can't be serious with that statement? I have NEVER met someone who had access to either Canada's or their native country in Europe for the system we have in the USA.They all would much rather keep theirs, thank you very much! We, in the USA, have a superb system for an elite few. We have a decent system for those with good group plans through their employer. For the rest..not so much.( we are the only "advanced" country in the world where you can go bankrupt by getting sick) Assuming you are the average Joe working for a big employer with a decent group plan, it still will cost you a fortune for your health care over the course of your career. No other country pays anywhere near what we do for health care and gets so little in return. (healthcare absorbs 15 to 18% of GDP, depending where you read). Health insurance cost is the number one reason as to why people quit their small business experiment and return to the "mainstream" job market. It is also a driving force as to why large US companies have difficulty competing with foreign companies. Volkswagon doesn't have to worry about how to fund it's employee and retiree health plans..its already built into the mix. It is also a huge incentive for Ford, GM etc to build plants in Canada and Mexico..they don't have to pay extra for their employees health insurance in those countrys. I could go on..those are just a couple items. The point is that the idea that we have a better health care system than Canada or any European country I am familiar with is simply ludicrous. |
This shouldn't come as a surprise. Many transportation support jobs get payed more than the pilots. A lot of rampers, TSA, cleaners/groomers and caterers, to name a few jobs, get paid more than the pilots. Another support job, ATC, get paid waaay more than the pilots.
It's a strange thing - akin to professional sports, whereby the coach attempts to discipline his players - all of whom are being paid more than the coach. |
On behalf of the TSA screener, I don't think they get paid (payed for those of you in Rio Linda) enough for what they now have to do - intensive patdowns, et cetera. Imagine having to do that all day. I would be having nightmares. They will all end up with PTSD before this is all finished.

On the healthcare issue....you say the other Countries system works fine?? Really?? A person waits on a "board" to decide whether the Patient is "worth" spending the money on them for treatment. THAT is not good healthcare. THAT is a society run by a Gov't board deciding who lives and who dies. When did it become MY resposibility to make sure the other folks in this Country (including illegals) get medical care? It is NOT my responsibility. If you can't afford health care than you need to change jobs to an employer that has some or better benefits or take a second job to pay for your own. I did. That is one of the large problems in this Country. Everyone thinks he/she has a "right" to EVERYTHING. Boo Hoo That is NOT how this Country was founded but that is certainly will be the death of it. |
Paid!
It's "paid" not "payed"!!!

I own a small business and can tell you have no knowledge of business operations, but after reading your post, I'd rather you gain some knowledge on other subjects. |
everyone is underpaid, not just the TSA!!!

ALPA is a Communist Union . . . . .
. . . . . . according to Glenn Beck.
Please follow along with me on my 3rd Grader's chalk board that is behind me. Here we go . . . . . (please keep in mind this post is 100% factual and based on Glenn Beck type "logic" and "news" reporting) On November 15 of this year, just a few weeks ago, on his Fox News show, Glenn Beck launched an attack on the AFL-CIO and its president, Richard Trumka, claiming that the "Communist Party USA is admitting to the party's working relationship with Richard Trumka ... and the AFL-CIO." Glenn Beck is quoted as saying from this "news" cast: "If you're in the unions, do you realize that your money, your union dues, are going to stand with the communists and the revolutionaries in this country?" Draw a big fat chalk circle around the above AFL-CIO "fact". Draw a line to the other side of the chalk board, make another big fat chalk circle and fill it in with the following fact: Directly from the ALPA web-site: "ALPA is the only pilot union affiliated with the AFL-CIO. ALPA’s president serves as an AFL-CIO Executive Council member and as a vice-president of the AFL-CIO’s Transportation Trades Department, which represents 35 member unions in the aviation, rail, transit, trucking, highway, longshore, maritime, and related industries." Now draw a third big fat chalk circle and connect the circles with chalk lines . . . the only reasonable conclusion a patriotic American can make is that ALPA is directly affiliated with, directly participates in, and is fully organized with the Communist Party. Only in America, can a true patriot like Glenn Beck be paid $2 million per year to bring these news facts to light. And oh yeah, according to Forbes magazine of this year, Mr. Patriotic himself makes an additional $30 million or so from his radio and publishing businesses. I am now off to wrap myself in the American flag and watch the news. Guess which channel I am going to watch? :p |
I’m not sure why your tone is in jest. Richard Trumka is the one sitting on the economics panel at the white house. The same White House whose carbon trading would cause energy prices to “necessarily skyrocket”. Our money at ALPA is kicked up to AFL-CIO and helped elect this current leadership. So in essence, we are paying to put ourselves out of a job.
Trumka also makes his rounds on RT, or Russian Television. He makes no attempt to hide his ideas about redistributing the wealth. Say what you want about Beck and Fox, but please use facts on who these people are. |

Trumka also makes his rounds on RT, or Russian Television. He makes no attempt to hide his ideas about redistributing the wealth. Say what you want about Beck and Fox, but please use facts on who these people are. I may regret this , but here goes. 1. I can't find anything that states that Trumka is on the white house economics advisory panel. However, I do hope he is. I would want to see the vastly outfunded voice of labor get at least a bit of say in the corporate oligarchy that has run public policy for the last 30 years or so. 2. I Googled Russian TV. A search on their web site for Richard Trumka got zero hits. Even if he was on it..so what? News Flash: The USSR collapsed in 1991 and along with it their Communist Party. The current Russian model still has its centuries of authoritan legacy, but the Communist order of Govt.-no. It is more similar to a fascist oligarchy such as we have in some South and Central American countries. 3. The idea of a Carbon Tax is waaay beyond the scope of such a board, but it does have its merits.(and yes, it does have drawbacks as well). A carbon tax, however, will appear to be inconsequential compared to the economic problems we are having..and will have...as we try to grow the worlds economy while unable to increase global oil production. 4. As far as redistributing wealth goes, this is exactly what has been happening in the USA for some 30 years or so now. The only problem is that it has been a redistribution of wealth from the vast majority to a tiny minority at the very top. Any attempts at redistributing wealth in the manner you mean is just trying to slow the flow of wealth (from almost everyone) that is currently going to the top. The redistribution of wealth to the uber-wealthy has occured because of policy, law, regulation..(both enacted and removed) and tax changes that have been a gift to this small minority by your elected leaders. (not by any extraordinary work or skills of that small group) The effects of this redistribution of wealth are profound and are reflected in the economy we currently have. These are emperical facts and easily checked. Any attempt by Trumka to reverse, or at least slow down this trend, I'm all for. Good for the AFL-CIO. |

Google is okay for things like researching topics for a doctoral thesis, or finding out if the symptoms you have are cancer, but for really important stuff (like proving your point on an anonymous internet forum) you need to get the big gun - LexisNexis. What source do you suppose the news media use when doing this type of research? One final point: don't get corralled into trying to prove a negative |
