Foxnews - TSA not payed enough
I saw this on the news that, "TSA agents are paid less then workers at McDonalds".... the panel went on the declare that our security was in jeopardy due to these low paid and over worked folks. In closing they said "because everyone is requesting pat downs, we need to pay them more for the extra work....
I will try to find the article online later, but this is insane that a TSA worker now MAY have a chance at making more then myself and a lot of my fellow co-workers here in the regional airline industry. This is not right guys. |
Yeah, that will fix the problem....
My sister-in-law has been a TSA screener (not mgmt) since after 9/11 and makes between 25-35K a year. I made about 18K my first year at ASA back in 97. |
Lemme know when a McDonalds worker makes $27431 a year, his first year. This is the pay for a GS-5 step 1 which is what most starting TSA security positions are advertised. This does not include locality pay which is 24.8% for BOS for example.
|
Actually, unless they have recently switched back to GS I believe they are on a SV scale:
TSA: Pay Scales at TSA (2010) Still a lot of money for a job that only requires a pulse: USAJOBS - Search Jobs |
Maybe if every checkpoint didn't have 25% more blue shirts than they need, with literally 10+ people standing around doing nothing at all times, they could pay them more?

You haven't been around government work too long have you? just joking. But seriously, inefficiency is the government's mission statement |

Well, Thousnads Standing Around seems to fit then, doesn't it. Edit to add: The news source is Faux News. It holds about as much weight as a hot fart! |

That all depends on who's around. But if they up the pay for these lazy people, I'm going to quit flying and start screening. I'd love to sit on my duff and make $50k a year. |
I don't know why anyone is surprised. It's FOX News.

Outsource the TSA, go to the fair tax and get rid of the IRS. That'll cut some spending. |

This schould help move things along .:)
Perfect Storm: TSA Workers Allowed to Unionize - TSA - Fox Nation The Air Traveler Dignity Act - TSA - Fox Nation Can't imagine what the next 20 years in air travel will look like , anyone willing to take a guess? Fred |
The Tub Stackers of America don't get paid enough? Thats a first! They need to install those tub conveyer belts that return the tubs back to the beginning of the X-ray. That way you never run out of tubs. That will get rid of at least a handful of them for each checkpoint. :D
|
Seems that many people think that if someone makes more than they do it is ridiculous. What TSA makes should have no bearing on what you make as a pilot, apples and oranges.
The same people who want them making $12,000 a year are the same people who post on the forums about how incompetent they are...these realities are not mutually exclusive |

Let it be understood that the left absolutely hates Fox. Whenever a story comes up, regardless of the topic they roll their eyes and the most intelligent thing they can say in rebuttal is "well, it is Faux News..." |
Didn't you guys all see the national ALPA prime-time commercial about how airline pilots aren't paid enough?
Oh wait, that hasn't happened. |

Second, I'll ask that no one turns this into a political mud slinging fest. I made no comment about the right or left. If this turns political the thread will be shutdown. |

No, it's not a joke. FOX News is a news network, not a political party. I made no mention of a political party.
You are either well aware of you connotations when you swipe at Fox News, or you live under a rock. |

Going back over to the TSA side of the discussion ---- if I remember correctly, it was established to replace the loosly organized, poorly trained, lowly paid private security screeners that allowed 19 bad guys to board airplanes with box cutters to cut pilots throats. So far so good -- no repeats to date. Still gotta work on those underwear bombers. Yes -- it has been expensive. Yes -- it is inconvenient. It's not quite as intrusive as that full body search under the watchful eyes of the guy with the machine gun I had to go thru in Taiwan back when the commies were coming.
Who really cares how much they're paid. It's certainly a job I would never want to do --almost as much fun as being a gate agent when flights are getting cancelled. |

I see. I state that FOX News & CNN stink, & you automatically make an assumption about my political preference. I'll have you know my political preference has ZERO influence on my opinion of FOX News. BTW, I know hard right wingers who hate FOX News.
Anyway, enough with that. I agree that it needs to get back on topic. |

ill get it back on topic by ranting against the TSA!!
Ill just say I really hope they keep their hands off the GA side of aviation, because they have ruined commercial travel. I honestly do not enjoy flying with a major airline anymore, It used to be fun! On the other hand, the worse they get, the better the private side of aviation looks. So as much as I dislike the way things are at airports, it means job security for GA pilots! |

Airport security is all it can be, it will not get any better regardless of how much we pay them. |
