Autopilot test on Saab 340

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to do the autopilot test on the Saab 340B? I'm new to the airplane and when I went to test it, it would automatically disconnect. I engaged the autopilot, pressed both trim buttons on the yoke up and it would disconnect.

If I just engage it and not doing anything, it looks like it goes through a self test. Is this correct?

Thanks for your help!

Don't you have numerous manuals, company procedures, checklists, simulator training, or fellow First Officers that can help you with this information?

Uhhhh.... if one yoke is up and the other down... and the autopilot disconnects I don't know what to do.... I have never in 2.5 years heard of that test and have never seen anyone perform it. Who do you work for? I know at CJC we are not required to perform such a test. I would imagine if you are on the ground and engage the autopilot that nothing would really happen. AHRS needs (I think) 70 seconds to perform its check but that should be unrelated.

Most if not all preflight tests are usually performed by the captain....just get the walk around, ATIS, clearance and other FO duties

Suspicious spelling, suspicious post, suspicious question.

Doesn't mean you shouldn't know how to perform a required check.... just sayin'...
that being said... it sounds like a wannabe to me and not legit...

That is a weird first post...At least tell us who you work for, and why you wouldn't be taught this in GND School or on OE...

Never taught it in the dash 8. We were taught (I think I recall at least) the items that shuts it off but thats about it.

There are no tests for it that we do. If it doesnt work....its on the MEL list. I guess that would be redundant "minimum equipment list list". Ill have to submit that for approval to the D.O.R.D or department of redundancy department.

The Saab, like many other aircraft, DOES have an autopilot test. It is quite simple. When the FO is on a 3 mile final, hold a very full cup of boiling hot coffee over his lap. If during the landing an ear splitting scream is heard, the autopilot needs work. No scream, Ops Check Good.
