Headset for the EMB 145???
I'm looking for a heatset since mines are not TODs (Zulus, which i love them :()
Anyway...I hear that the EMB-145 is noisy...so Suggestions??? PS: I'm not planing to use the company for long, just until I figure out what to get. |
When I flew the 145, I used my Bose. It helped a ton and wouldn't want anything different. I remember taking off my headsets in cruise a couple times to hit the lav and it sounded like I was in a tornado! Definitely suggest a pair of some ANR's or wear some ear plugs under your david clamps.

Whatever you decide, they are supposed to be TSOd.
|
I think that any over the ear ANR would be fine. If you can swing something nicer like the Bose A20 or the Lightspeed Zulu you would really enjoy it. 8 hours a day in the DC clamps is pretty miserable.
|
I just bought the A20's. IOE is a month away... can't wait to try em out.

So a Telex 750 or anything light like that would be pretty tough in an RJ?

The WSCOD is EXTREMELY loud in cruise. Most say it's the wipers although I heard that's bit of an urban legend. Don't know, don't care. About the only time it's tolerable without a headset is when it's in the .70 range. |
Using a 750/850 in an ERJ is risky business; the person you're flying with will most likely murder you before the first five minutes are up. If you manage to survive those initial five minutes, not to worry, you'll die of an aneurysm shortly thereafter due to the combined lack of ANR and the screaming mic wind noise feeding right back into your ear which sounds like the shrills of hundreds of women after Oprah announces she's giving something away.
In all seriousness, I've used a Bose X and I'll swear up and down by it all day long. Bose make awful speakers, but their headsets and customer service are equally awesome. http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/2849/oprah.gif |

The guys I know that go that route are usually wearing ear plugs underneath them.

I used the Telex 850 for a while. Light weight and comfy, but I still needed earplugs above 10,000 feet. Now I have Lightspeed Mach1 with custom ear molds. *******ing awesome! Not worth it unless you get the custom ear molds. They are a bit pricey, but still cheaper than Bose.

I wish I can use my zulus (they are just one year old), but I need TSOd ones since I'm going to fly with Eagle.
I'm looking the "Sennheiser HMEC 26" Stereo ANR, someone have those??? Are they are good in the EMB???? The look comfortable and lightweight. |

I don't know about the wipers but the whole thing sucks. The cockpit is mostly stolen from the Bro that is considerably slower. It's like driving a KIA at 170mph.
That's really funny....and true! |
get a used bose qc2 from ebay..$135 and buy the tso'd ufly mike $315......you wont ever need another headset again, plus you can use them on DH's.
|
I started with the bose aviation X, which were really good. However, they're still an over-the-ear headset which I personally don't like. I've always hated the clamping feeling that they give you, whether they're bose, DC's, whatever...Soooo I sold them on ebay for $500 (bought them used from a friend from $500, so no loss there) and bought used Telex 750's on ebay (as far as I could tell they were brand new) for $70 and wear ear plugs and am very happy. There is no discomfort and you get used to wearing ear plugs so it's not a big deal at all. The one downfall is that I feel like comms can be a little muffled, but not to the point where you can't understand. Overall, if you hate the clamping feeling, go with 750's (or if you have money, clarity alofts) but if you don't care about that then go with an expensive over-the-ear headset.

Sounds like a flying trash can. Good thing I never fly AA so I won't have to cope with those POSs.
|
so, how's life under the bridge?

Are the Lightspeed Zulus TSOd?

I use the telex 750s + earplugs. $80 on ebay. The wind noise is annoying, keep the hot mic off. I'll buy something else eventually. I've had the bose x in the 145, they are nice but overkill (in my opinion) and I sold them.
I'd really be happy with a pair of every day non-ANR DC's that didn't crush my skull. But no one seems to make those. |
anybody know what headset Tim Martens used? That one is probaly the best.
|
anything that cancels wind noise

I've found the company DC's to be just fine for the most part... just don't forget to wipe them down first. Only drawback is constantly having to dig them out of some obscure crevice which the previous crew decided to throw them in after using their own headset and not putting the company headset back in its proper place before turning the plane over to the next crew, but I digress...

For some odd reason, the TSO'd version gets a bleed through from NAVs. Constantly hearing the ID of whatever is in the nav's whether it's a VOR or a LOC. I guess even if you turn it down it can be annoying for some reason. |
I had Zulus on when I was flying a turbo prop , however I moved on to a Crj 200 and they were too big to fit in my bag with all my charts without crushing them. So I got the telex 850 which have anr and they work great ! They are a little louder then the Zulus sure, but I don't have a bulky headset stuck to my head for hours on end. Makes a big difference when you have a small headset resting on your head compared to a bulky pair of DC all day. Telex 850 work great in the CRJ and cheaper too .....

Ok..those are the options I'm considering:
1. Bose A-20 2. Sennheiser HMEC 26 I've been researching and I think those 2 are my best option since I really don't like in ear and would prefer do use earplugs with DC or telex light headset. What is your opinion? |
