Shortest Reserve Time

Just wondering out of all of the carriers hiring now, what is the projected time from reserve to holding a line on any regional carrier? Also what bases to expect from which companies. Thanks in advance.

Go somewhere that will be the best long term if you get stuck there, not how it'll be short term. Some are better than others for reserve time, but thats not all there is to it. Reserve at some airlines is better than being a lineholder at others and a lot of people went to airlines for quick lines/upgrade/etc and ended up on reserve for years or furloughed.

Here at Mesaba i choose to take reserve because i have a new born. Jan i work 4 days, Feb i work 4 days this month i have work 4 days. So i am getting paid 400-500 less a month if i work to work 19-20 days a months i dont eat airport food so i save money and i dont pay daycare. I know guys at (the old pinnacle) and they work everyday on reserve. When i was hired at mesaba i was on reserve for about 3 months. The guys a few numbers junior to me have been on reserve for over 3 years. So like the post above says dont just look short term.

To answer your question reserve at mesaba is around 3 years and counting and soon to be ?????? (post SLI)

Thanks for the replies. Definately some good points. Anybody from the following care to chime in, Skywest, Expressjet, ASA, Republic, TSA or Eagle. Also junior bases. I have searched the forums but it is nice to bring the info in one. Thanks

This is like trying to predict upgrade or the weather. All we can tell you is what it is now, but as soon as there's a slow down in the economy, or fuel goes up...you get the picture.

Here at XJT, it looks like ORD is about a year; EWR, CLE, and IAH are all hanging in there at about the 3 year mark. All subject to change as we see movement go up or down.

For f/o's ORD is the most junior, and IAH the most senior. Good luck.

Compass is growing it's fleet by 33% over the next year (or so) and if Delta hires the most senior people will leave the company. Of course if Delta furloughs the most junior people will leave the company. If you were hired right now you wouldn't be on reserve long.

Eagle- junior bases/equip have been ORD CRJ/ERJ, DFW ERJ/ATR, SJU ATR. Talk of newhires being offered MIA ERJ in the coming classes.

Reserve will probably run 5-8months for the CRJ/ERJ bases. DFW ATR can run a little less, SJU ATR probably a little more than that.

If you can live in base then Reserve will be a great QOL.

ASA new hires that went to DTW are skipping reserve, going straight to line holders. But I believe those slots are full.

Like someone else posted, don't go somewhere for short term planning. That's a bit nearsighted

Exactly 3 months on reserve at
9E for me, next month first line 14 days off. Jfk based . All but 1 trip is commutable ( meaning i ll have to commute in the night before if I cant trip trade it away )

Kinda got lucky I guess. Hope I can hold a line from here on out. With displacements, and TDY"s and everything else going on ( SLI ) I have a hard time keeping track of anything.

GoJet's been projecting a 2 month upgrade for about 4 years now. :)

AtlCSIP 03-21-2011 08:29 AM

Some ASA new hires from October have a line for March. Not sure about April yet. If the new hires continue at 2 classes of 12 per month, someone starting class today would probably be off reserve in 6 to 9 months. The junior bases are DTW and IAD, but it looks like they are full with the last classes / vacancy bids, so I would guess that the new hires will go to Atlanta, unless another vacancy is posted.

If fuel goes up another buck a gallon, we might all be looking for jobs.
