I'd much rather work for a non-union company. I was with Skywest and loved it. Now that i'm with CAL, I have an even larger appreciation for how much better it is to work for a non-union carrier. Don't think I didn't notice how Skywest fared poorly on their pro-rate flying. That must mean that ASA/XJT are better since the cost of jet fuel went up. But then again, another reason was the increased training crew cost for the additional summer block hours that ASA/XJT is getting. I guess that means that Unical and DAL must know ASA/XJT is better. None of the factors given had anything to do with union labor! jetblue, virgin America, allegiant are all hiring by the way. |

That's true Nevets. My comment wasn't hate directed at Xjet or ASA. I like both those companies and wish them the best. I just wanted to counter all the pro-union people who want to see Skywest do poorly. The Skywest division probably made a profit last quarter.

Regardless SKW is flying record block hours for UAL/DAL and we are scheduled to receive many more a/c in the near future plus the start-up of our Alaska flying.
That's like Republic pilots talking about THEIR Midwest Express flying. With that attitude its no wonder SKW pilots are unwelcome on QX jumpseats. |

YOUR Alaska flying? You're referring to the flying you'll be doing in AAG jets on AAG routes under AAG operational control? You mean the flying jobs you TOOK from Union Horizon pilots?

Skywest pilots aren't allowed in QX jumpseats? How about ASA pilots? Because the pilots have total control over what planes and flying they take...
This is capitalism, not the boyscouts. SkyWest offers a comparable product at a lower price. And as most know, its not that SkyWest is cheap, its that Horizon is expensive. I'd love Horizon's pay scales and 401k matching, but then I'd be out of a job. I really don't mean to be snide, its just the truth about a contract industry. |

Pretty sure SKW signed a contract with AAG which means until that contract is voided it belongs to SKW. How AAG plans to utilize SKW is completely up to them. We pilots have no control, period. It's sad what has happened to Horizon or for that matter Frontier, Midwest, ATA, Pan Am, Eastern, Braniff, etc. but that's not just this industry but every industry. Someday i know the tide will turn on SKW and blaming another pilot group is just ridiculous.
As for the Union vs. Non-Union poke, that's just childish. I'm pro union and a very big advocate for One List / One Union with XJT/ASA but every time a non-union pilot reads postings like the one above they move further away from joining the cause. It's counterproductive and petty. |
The contract may be yours, but the jobs you're taking are Horizon's. Just exactly like the jobs Republic pilots took from Midwest Express. Duvie, just remember one thing while you enjoying SKW pay...it may be highest you ever get.
