Everyone so far has been very friendly, competent, and in no way intimidating. They've also been very clear that while the sims are backed up and there might be some delays between the oral and sims or the sims and IOE, they will absolutely positive space you back home and do their best to give you as much notice as possible and try to work with you if you have something important like a wedding or child birth coming up that you know about. I don't know if you had a bad experience with how things used to be, but from what I've heard and from my experience thus far, since Mesaba took over the hiring and training umbrella in February, things might not be running totally smooth but they are no where near as horrible as you make it out to be.
No offense intended...but the first few days of INDOC are basically a honeymoon phase on the mesaba side of things. I'm pretty sure its the same at most places....a feel good company pow-wow if you will.

None taken at all. I fully expect the shine to come off the apple, so to speak, at some point here because I'm realistic. I still don't think it is or will be as bad as some were making it out to be. The lack of information isn't going away, training or not, so it would probably make sense to get used to it. It certainly could be better I'm sure, but regarding any training delays, we're getting paid our full guarantee already so I'm hard pressed to complain about paid time off.

I completely agree that it probably isnt as bad as it may sound.

But after all, we are airline pilots and by airline pilot I mean professional complainers...it's what we do best.

It is a cluster-foxtrot within the CJC training program...The more things change the more that they stay the same...And, I speak from experience here. Some good people in the dept., but not given the tools, manpower, training devices or organizational support to really have anything that would be considered an industry standard. This is a fact, not an exaggeration I am sorry to say...

It sounds like you have a substantial more amount of experience with the system than I do, so I can't necessarily provide an intelligent counter argument...except to say, today we were quoted a pass rate of 97%. Barring a blatant lie, that means they've gotta be doing something right with what they have, no?

I got sick during upgrade. The head of training (who has now been removed) did help me get through upgrade without a significant delay.

New hires must realize they are on the bottom of the totem poll. If a sim session will get a line pilot current, a new hire is likely to be bumped since he won't be able to move a plane until he finishes training.

Or the bar is set low, or they are desperate for warm bodies in the right seat, or most of the pilots have incredible skills that make up for the training deficiencies : ). A high pass rate does not indicate quality training.

Training was disorganized at best. I was placed on three different and conflicting schedules and no one really seemed to care that it would cause problems down the road (Which it did). The "syllabus" is lacking on content and guidance for the instructors. My instructor found out how to interpret the lesson sheets two conflicting ways from different people in charge of training half way through my sim training.

In the end, learn the FOM, limitations, and systems. Don't fall into the mindset that they will tell you when and what to study or that you should just take it one day at a time. You will be told your oral exam is on one day, and then they change it. You plan to study for a test on Friday that gets moved to Thursday because they decide to start sims on Friday and then after your test, they decide not to start sims on Friday. The point is, do not put all your faith in the training department to teach you everything you need to know at the right pace. Try to get ahead of the game as much as you can so when they decide to send you to systems instead of doors you already know the limitations and are not behind.
