Shuttle America adding 6 more 170's for DAL
Republic Airways Amends Delta Agreement to Add Six New E170 Aircraft - Yahoo! Finance
Well, we know where the growth and new hires will be going in the next year. Should be another big upgrade class announced soon. Wasn't Delta at it's maximum # of RJ's? I thought after Compass added 12 that there was no room for anymore...?? |
The six E170 aircraft are currently operating in service under Republic’s branded operation, Frontier Airlines. This fleet reallocation furthers the Company’s plans to remove all E170 aircraft from the Frontier operation and provides the Company the opportunity to make network adjustments and capacity reductions to create better efficiency and lower costs for the branded operation. The Company now expects 2011 capacity, as measured by ASMs, to be flat or grow up to 1% on its Frontier operations. |
Man Dl is all regional now a days

Compass had 12, then TSA announced it was cut to 6 last week, and here we are.

They announce routes out of MCI that directly compete with RAH. Now they add 6 more 170s today. |

I wish I could go back in time 20 years to tell a mainline pilot that someday regionals would have 4000+ pilots and fly 90 seat jets. The pilot would no doubt say, "you're totally insane! Regionals just started flying turboprops with pressurized cabins!!!" |
“In light of current oil prices we will continue to focus on developing Frontier’s most successful and profitable routes while managing capacity at responsible levels.”
This is code for -- "dang we cannot figure out how to make money at over $100 a barrel oil. Better go back to making money the only way we know how" |

This, sadly, has been the trend for the past decade. I believe that it is also the framework for the future. As more and more mainline pilots retire, they shall be replaced by cheaper regional jet labor. The regional jets keep on getting bigger and the scopes will get looser and looser. No doubt the C-Series and CRJ1000 will only further my point.

Upgrades? Try displacement. No new aircraft replacing these. Just a shift on which certificate they fly on.
