What's better?
#1
Right now I have a two leg commute and I'm on reserve. So I have to choose when the next domicile bid comes out.
Option 1:
A one leg commute and stay on reserve (plenty of crashpad options).
Option 2:
A two leg commute but I'll hold a line.
Which would you prefer?

Depends on the 2leg commute and where you're commuting out of.

If reserve is not too long for the one leg commute i would opt for that choice or take the two leg commute with a line and when you can hold a line at the other (one leg commute) base i would put a bid in to transfer if it`s possible.

I would prefer to live in base. Okay, that seems to not be an option for you, so...
The two leg commute....
Are there many flights on each leg? If so, commuting might not be too bad. What KIND of line would you hold? Is it all day trips so you still need a crash pad, or is is late show day one and early off day four so you do not need a crashpad and you actually get all your days off?
One leg commute....
How often do they use reserves? What kind of trips? Can you volunteer for longer trips? If they use you for four day trips a bunch, you might be able to avoid a crash pad and get a hotel room one day per string.
Speaking for myself, I like having a known schedule. So, a line, no matter how bad, is better. What you like, well, only you can say.
Honestly, if you can position yourself to live in base, that is the best solution.
