Interesting... about a year ago, CAL downsized its EWR hub and replaced a lot of 737s with Q400s. Smisek swore that customers weren't booking away from Q400s. That might not actually be the case any more.

Not before we open BOS.

Let's think this over, boys.

CAL/UAL merge. So now it's all United feeder flying.

EWR feeder flying goes more to XJT and IAD flying to Colgan. So it would make sense to send the pilots and f/as to IAD.

Could actually happen....

Wouldn't surprise me either.

All of Colgans outstation basing will be cleaned up.

Colgan is just getting spread to more bases. All of the United regionals are going to be spread out across more of the hubs. So ewr will shrink and there will be a presence in IAD, DEN, ORD, IAH. Same thing for XJT/ASA, Commutair, Skywest, Republic, etc... lots of little bases all over the place.

Delta's been doing that with their litter of regionals. It makes for long, unproductive trips with lots of deadheading.

Oh, and did I mention you can only count on min days off?

such a mean tease ! man, i wish this were true...

There are a lot of arguments one could make to support either supposition. EWR is a delay ridden and unpopular base for all airlines, and doesn't take advantage of all the operational efficiencies that the Q-400 offers. Retrenching the Q-400 fleet in IAD would allow UA/CO to serve more routes that justify and are more lucrative than those served out of EWR. In fact, I would be surprised to see the IAH base last more than a year or two. I think that the Q would be a much better airplane out of DEN to serve the Rockie Mountain communities. We shall see...Always interesting and amusing to try and predict and second guess our management and industry.

Denver, Salt Lake, Chicago, and San Francisco all seem like they'd be good bases. All have good United/Continental presence and the Q would do very well in those markets.

Been rumors of the Q moving out west for a long time. I know DEN has been thrown around a lot, I've heard ORD more recently. I think it'd do very well, it'd be nice to have some bases out west for those of us from the better coast! ;)
