I'd sure love for someone up there to call me back about any upcoming training class dates. All I was ever told was "in August". You can't plan anything around that.

121,
I spoke to HR last week and they said that they are looking to clear out the pool. Potentially a July 27 (I think that was the date he gave me) S5 class as well as August classes. He even said that they might have to hire some more folks off the street. I am in sort of the same boat as you. I have another job offer with a more respected regional but being that S5's junior base is LGA I would be closer to my family and that is important to me. Can any Shuttle people who may be reading this give me the low-down on what is really going on over there? Is the company totally failing? What are the chances of being furloughed over the next year or so? I know I'll be on reserve for a long time but I wouldn't be commuting. I appreciate your input. Thanks! |

Most junior 170 is in PHL with a 12/06 hire. I was off on the last award...there were 12/06 upgrades, but for the 145.
What are you looking at? |

Thanks! Shuttle is the only certificate at RAH with confirmed growth. And most of that growth is LGA. Company wide it's a crap shoot. If F9 tanks, there's around 30 airplanes with nowhere to go so if they sit and they run lean, you'd probably get furloughed. Go where the QOL will be good. Eagle has a NY base and have FO pay beyond 4 years also. |

I was looking at flica...that website is probably wrong. Didn't feel like logging into 30 websites to look at the cover sheet.

LAXSAAB is right about most of the attrition being FO's. I checked with a couple of my buddies over at RAH and last month the attrition was 27. 7 Capts. and 20 FO's.
RAH has not reached that level of attrition yet. June was 9 total. May was 11. Average is about 10 a month. |
Not sure which numbers are correct, the list that came out early July still had guys on it that quit in June (submitted their two weeks in May). So I think the numbers are a bit worse than shown.
But, in no way would I recommend anyone come to this place. I would consider EVERY other option, including half-way house resident Gigolo before I'd go to RAH. Even if said position required two years of probationary work rules. I'm completely serious. |
we have big months and small months as far as attrition goes. I expect people leaving this month will be up a bit again. I know a few guys are going to JB and another few to US Air. Without major hiring yet it's moving at a trickle (but it is moving). I've seen it as low as 10 and as high as 30 since January. Right now all I care is that they are senior to me. Don't really care which seat yet. The CA's will leave for major jobs. FO's try and chase the upgrade or being based at home. For some it works and or others it's an epic fail.

Has your PRIA cleared yet? They said they have cleared some but not all people from the pool. I spoke to them the other day and they had just sent my stuff out. After your PRIA clears, I am not too sure of the hierarchy in determining who is offered a class 1st. I've been in the pool since the beginning of March.

Got a missed call from HR yesterday and they said they have 3 class dates to choose from.
|
Keep them coming! When you find out please let us know what dates those are. Keep us posted! Good luck guys. Don't let any of the negative people sway your decision. I understand its not for all people at this place. But if you can make it work or if it works for you then you won't be too disappointed. Know what you sign up for and make the best choice for you. Be positive. This industry has too many negative people here already.

How do I get them to call me back so I can get confirmed for 7/27? I've called & left messages with John, Lisa & others in Recruiting/HR for two weeks.

Make it work? You mean 37/hr for the foreseeable future? In the heat of our last contract battle, the bottom ~ 5% were sacrificed as furlough bait by the company. They lost significant longevity. Don't think for a second that the company wouldn't do it again. Why in the world would you come here when Eagle, Skywest, "Sure-jet", PSA, Air Whisky, & Pinnacle are all hiring? You guys are either ill-informed or sadists. Take off the rose colored glasses, forget about the quick upgrade, and realize that RAH is a crappy place to work with a very questionable future. |
I know what response my last post will receive: "He's just a bitter, angry person who will bash whatever company he works for."
What makes me bitter is that I have many friends at other regionals who don't have to put up with the BS we put up with. Friends who make more than 35k/year. Who get more than 12 days off per month. Who aren't in perpetual arguments with GED educated schedulers, despite being a lineholder. Who don't have to fight to make sure their paychecks accurately reflect their work. Who can actually bid commutable schedules. Who don't live under an 8 year old contract. Who aren't patronized & lectured by incompetent and immoral management. This place blows. I know this because I've seen how the other side lives. |
To continue the previous post...this used to be a good place to work...I actually used to encourage friends to come work here....now I tell anyone who I care about to stay the hell away. This isn't the RAH it was in 2007.

Agreed it used to be better. However I would say have faith that changes are coming sooner rather than later with regards to the contract.

Got an 8-1 Republic class. Anyone know how many they were planning?

You're right, its not for everyone. If you despise fair work rules, decent pay, respectful management, an iron clad CBA, then come on down & join the RAH circus!!!!

Of course management has been dragging out negotiations and dragging out the poor pay for as long as possible. It makes their numbers look just a tad bit better. But SOON they are going to have to pay and I fully expect some pretty respectable wages and work rules. It can actually return to a pretty decent place to work, but we have to make that happen through our union. Realistically, getting on at Republic right now might not be a bad move. The company was stagnant for 3+ years. Guys were stuck on reserve for 3 years. The company actually has attrition now so we're seeing movement forward. If the flood gates open at the Majors, we could see rapid upgrade here. There is going to be a 3 year gap in our seniority among junior FO's. If I was a CFI, I would take the chance on Republic, never know what could happen. |

We all feel the same way bro, but you have to understand the situation and keep your head up. True, we've been without a contract for awhile, but we are in mediation right now over 4 important sections of the CBA (including compensation and scheduling).
