XJ, 9E, 9L Contract Question

I was wondering about the provision in the contract for Long Call Reserve. Has anyone done it? What can be expected? How does it work? If you are awarded LCR, can you stay at home and commute on the day you get assigned work for the following day? Any insights are appreciated. Thank you.

You check the day before your on reserve, and you can check as early as 10 am (hint, check exactly at 10am!). If nothing is on your schedule, then same thing applies for the next day. If something is on your schedule for the next day (yes it can be an early show), then be there for it. Simple enough.

I can tell you that, at least on the XJ side all the commuters were excited about it for approximately 1 week, the they realized how pathetic the provision was.

Fact is, long call gets used FIRST, every time, no matter what.

Thanks guys, I'm a new hire and and 4th most junior in base, in your opinion is lcr better than regular reserve? I have a fairly easy commute to lga on xj metal so if I can stay at home and not a crash pad it might be worth it no?

Aren't you worried about commuting on a saab with a useless jumpseat (95%) of the time?

Pretty much all companies use the LCR guys first, as they should its efficient that way.

All depends on the LGA operation I don't have a clue what it's like....

Well there are more flights on other companies I can take and the flights so far have been fine, I know the saab is weight critical but the captains have been nice about getting me on, I'm just trying to figure out if it's something worth bidding if used properly

Give it a try and decide for yourself. Some people like it (it still tends to go senior). Some don't.

One more thing about LCR, Crew Scheduling CAN escalate you from LCR to short call reserve (2 hr callout) twice in a month. However, when they escalate you (and they will, both times) you must stay SCR for the rest of your reserve week.

So really, even if you have LCR, you would only "enjoy" it for half of the month, the other 2 weeks of the month you will be Short Call Reserve, regardless.

And yes, the 2 weeks that you will be LCR you will be used first.

If you can hold it bid it. You will get an extra one or two nights at home at least. They will escalate you if they need more short call people but it might be at the end of a trip or just a stretch of two days. Look over the details in the contract. It isn't much but it is a slight increase in quality of life. Reserve rules are horrible here in general. How we justified a contract that gives line holders an extra week off a month and pays them more than people on reserve I will never know. That is 84 more days off a year.

Thank you. Funny I read that part of the contract about LCR and completely missed the part about SCR and remaining SCR for the balance of the reserve sequence.
