Asking how long upgrade takes is like when your neighbor asks "What's your route?"

Only have info for this month. Changes every month. Won't know next month's until the bid is awarded.

Air Wisconsin is over 5.5 years... at the moment. I was a June 2006 hire and I'm probably still 40+ from upgrade.

AFAIK, the May/June upgrade class was a mix of the 3 years and the 1.5 year guys, so it's dropped already.

The sad part is that I make more as an FO at another regional than a CommutAir Captain.
Captain seat for $38 an hour?? Too much responsibility for the pay. And also 1.5year upgrade, I won't be very sure to fly in that plane as a passenger.

I've been 1 year as a FO and I still don't feel like I can handle the left seat responsibilities.

I agree about the pay. About the short upgrade times, you never knoew what their background was, maybe some good 135 time, etc. 1.5 year upgrade time is short, but some people can handle it just fine. Back in '07 SKW had guys getting 14 month upgrades on the rj. Their schedules have stunk since then, but their flying has been fine as far as I know. Whether you are ready for an upgrade or not is something every pilot should seriously consider before accepting regardless of how long you've been in the right seat.

Upgrade is a choice, it's not forced upon anyone. People don't make it through upgrade and get fired. It happens. It's not like Captain upgrade training is a walk in the park at a regional.

$38 for a Capt is insane, no doubt. That's why C5 is in contract negotiations. Of course in typical ALPA fashion most of us will be flying for majors by the time anything comes out of it.

Showing a little age here but in 1996, COEX had 6 month upgrades.

Well.......I think GoJet upgrade time will drop real soon!

Mesa, right now, 7 1/2 year upgrade. By July 2012, around a decade. There were street CA's off and on thru 2004 thru 2006 with a bunch of Eagle, and Mesaba pilots hired straight to the CA seat. There also was a time when ERJ CA was VERY junior too, upgrade was less than a year. And then of course Air Midwest had guys upgrading practically after initial IOE. Those days are long gone. :(

Colgan's at 2 years... probably gonna drop to 18 months because of the fences imposed by the pinnacolaba merger...

If we exercise even half of the 30 Q options in the next 5 years it would be a very advantageous position to be in. If not...welp...

Though, I don't know if I'd come here chasing a fast upgrade now just because the fences apply to just pre merger pilots, right? So July 1st, 2010? Or pre ISL? Or is it as long as you're hired and get a little C next to your number on the ISL you're in? I honestly don't know. I'm not saying I think the Pinnacolaba upgrade is going to be any longer than anyone else's in the next 5 years, but it seems like going to a place with a short upgrade means you're in for the long haul whereas going someplace with a long upgrade means it's bound to come down by the time you're up (see: Eagle). Just my opinion.
