Irene, Paid to sit home/Stuck in east bumble!

Well guys, for us right coasters, who is stuck in some random city till Monday? Who just got paid to sit at home for 4 days? I saw no one started a thread about this yet, so I figured I would take a shot.

Anyone have any cool pictures, or been close to the storm? Seems like most of the airlines jumped on this early and just got the planes far from the storm.

Ouch, good luck with that. I got the first 2 days of my trip CX so far, will see about the 2nd half, I think it will get CX. Makes me happy because its an 11hr 4 day, so am glad to see this one get CX, really was a stupid trip to begin with. Our AUG lines got kinda goofed up.

I am 200 feet away from a mandatory evacuation zone and a flood zone. I am home with all my flights cancelled. My home is on a hill out of the flood zone thankfully but I am hoping this is overblown for my neighbors down the road. I will post pictures if the storm surge gets near.

The area near me that is in the flood zone is a little bit of a poorer area.

Stuck in JFK (Long Beach)... We were told to leave, but where are we gonna go?... BUT 4 cases of beer and a bottle of Vodka... I think we just might tame Irene. Good Luck.

I think this is a good way to deal with the situation (of course, soda may need to be supplemented); from a Weather Channel article....

"...Charlie Koetzle, 55, who has lived in Ocean City for a decade, came to the boardwalk in swim trunks and flip-flops to look at the sea. While his neighbors and most everyone else had evacuated, Koetzle said he told authorities he wasn't leaving. To ride out the storm, he had stocked up with soda, roast beef, peanut butter, tuna, nine packs of cigarettes and a detective novel..."

lol nice quote. I am up in NW NJ, will also post pictures, but I am far from where the hard part will hit. Thanks for those who are posting pics, esp near the shore, and if you can from JFK area as well that would be great. I am watching for any trees to fall, esp on my house.

Hope everyone stays safe, wishing this is over played by the news and the impact is small!

I fly out of Atlantic City. The Casinos actually all closed at 3:30 yesterday for the evacuation. I landed at 4:00pm and there was absolutely no traffic between ACY and Philly. I made it home to Annapolis in record time. Just watching the rain come down, playing Wii with the kids and trying to hold off on starting in on the beer supply. Annapolis will be under water this time tomorrow. When Isabelle hit in 2003??, you could kayak to McGarvey's and Middleton's.

Glad I am off this weekend!
