Irene, Paid to sit home/Stuck in east bumble!

Well guys, for us right coasters, who is stuck in some random city till Monday? Who just got paid to sit at home for 4 days? I saw no one started a thread about this yet, so I figured I would take a shot.

Anyone have any cool pictures, or been close to the storm? Seems like most of the airlines jumped on this early and just got the planes far from the storm.

Ouch, good luck with that. I got the first 2 days of my trip CX so far, will see about the 2nd half, I think it will get CX. Makes me happy because its an 11hr 4 day, so am glad to see this one get CX, really was a stupid trip to begin with. Our AUG lines got kinda goofed up.

I am 200 feet away from a mandatory evacuation zone and a flood zone. I am home with all my flights cancelled. My home is on a hill out of the flood zone thankfully but I am hoping this is overblown for my neighbors down the road. I will post pictures if the storm surge gets near.

The area near me that is in the flood zone is a little bit of a poorer area.

PCLCREW 08-27-2011 08:11 AM

Stuck in JFK (Long Beach)... We were told to leave, but where are we gonna go?... BUT 4 cases of beer and a bottle of Vodka... I think we just might tame Irene. Good Luck.

sleestak 08-27-2011 08:27 AM

I think this is a good way to deal with the situation (of course, soda may need to be supplemented); from a Weather Channel article....

"...Charlie Koetzle, 55, who has lived in Ocean City for a decade, came to the boardwalk in swim trunks and flip-flops to look at the sea. While his neighbors and most everyone else had evacuated, Koetzle said he told authorities he wasn't leaving. To ride out the storm, he had stocked up with soda, roast beef, peanut butter, tuna, nine packs of cigarettes and a detective novel..."

lakehouse 08-27-2011 08:34 AM

lol nice quote. I am up in NW NJ, will also post pictures, but I am far from where the hard part will hit. Thanks for those who are posting pics, esp near the shore, and if you can from JFK area as well that would be great. I am watching for any trees to fall, esp on my house.

Hope everyone stays safe, wishing this is over played by the news and the impact is small!

....thats enough to stay a float in case you get swept away! jk! :)

I fly out of Atlantic City. The Casinos actually all closed at 3:30 yesterday for the evacuation. I landed at 4:00pm and there was absolutely no traffic between ACY and Philly. I made it home to Annapolis in record time. Just watching the rain come down, playing Wii with the kids and trying to hold off on starting in on the beer supply. Annapolis will be under water this time tomorrow. When Isabelle hit in 2003??, you could kayak to McGarvey's and Middleton's.

Glad I am off this weekend!

...pace yourself, it's not an emergency situation just yet :)

DirectTo 08-27-2011 10:52 AM

Of course, CommutAir sent all of their available Newark crews to Cleveland instead of releasing anyone.

Beer sounds good.

Great Cornholio 08-27-2011 11:13 AM

Its not bad enough in IAD yet so we are still running our mid afternoon bank. Late night bank and morning bank tomorrow are cx'd though. As always I'm sure we are the last ones out and the 1st ones back in...gotta keep that completion factor up.

CrippleHawk 08-27-2011 11:15 AM

Luckily I am not working today. Good luck to thoses affected

fjetter 08-27-2011 01:59 PM

Not an airline, but our charter company sent about 10 of aircraft out to the Pitt area to get out of the storm. Should be partying it up for the weekend?

lakehouse 08-27-2011 03:27 PM

I almost just flooded my house, I went to fill the bath tub with backup water, and forgot about it, thank god people made this mistake a lot in the past and bathtubs now come with an overflow drain. Otherwise I would have created my own hurricane!

PCLCREW 08-27-2011 04:11 PM

Bottle of vodka gone... getting ready to start on the beer.
JFK is totally void of aircraft, almost seems scary!

It is beer before liquor never sicker... liquor before beer in the clear? (well I hope)

lakehouse 08-27-2011 04:31 PM

sounds right to me

PIT hasn't seen this many aircraft in years. Thank goodness they still have a ramp freq.

lakehouse 08-27-2011 06:22 PM

ya I saw we sent a few out to pit, the places I saw them ferrying stuff was ROC PIT and CLE

lakehouse 08-27-2011 07:33 PM

we have tons of crews from/in the northeast, spending the weekend stuck in random cities, yet not one has replied to this thread. That means everyone is enjoying their overnights! That is awesome!

Short Bus Drive 08-27-2011 08:03 PM

On drive home on the Turnpike earlier was "freaked out" by the sight of NO airplanes in EWR! (except for Air India's and El Al's 777's). TWO airplanes, that was it! Weird. In between bands now, and window has been leaking ALL night! The next few days are going to be a MESS!

lakehouse 08-28-2011 05:17 AM

so far in NW NJ all is ok. no damage to anything, but power has been in/out. How are things down near JFK? Hope all is safe.

edit: no power anymore

...no mass transit today maybe even early morning! how are you getting to ny from nj?

rocketman3746 08-28-2011 11:30 AM

repo'd an airplane to KLEB yesterday and am spending the weekend. Day two of sitting in a hotel room with nothing to do cuz pool is closed due to flooding. Thankfully, that's the most I have to complain about. Hope everyone is staying safe! Good thing there's a liquor store next door... Two six packs of shocktop down, two to go...

No idea, I drive in, if for some reason this isnt CX I will just leave early and take my time getting in. The George W is open and that's all I need. We are still in the dark out here, the local airport by me all the GA planes are under water its fully flooded, a ton of majors roads out here are under water. The hurricane wasnt bad but the flooding is terrible right now, worst I have seen in my life time up here, we have semi major roads on the mountain near the rivers that got partially wiped away.
