Default 1st year pay?

So here is my quandary. I have been semi employed at a 135 outfit for the last year, just making ends meet with contract work. I have been considering applying at the regionals, but am concerned about the QOL on first year pay, having to be away from family for basically a year on reserve at a minimum. I just want some feedback on what kind of paychecks I can expect first year. I'm not looking for the stories of that one awesome paycheck. I'm looking for an average. Thanks.

Depends where you go. Budget for $1200 take home per month.

Do 3 things to make your QOL better...

1. live in base
2. live in base
3. live in base

$1200/month is a good average estimate. that 1200 goes alot further when you dont have to pay for a crashpad, airport car, and all the other associated costs of being gone alot more from home. plus...you get to be home more. reserve while living in base is totally bare able. commuting to reserve...people do it, i dont even wanna think about it.

Sounds about right. Here at Eagle I average around $1500 per month. Depending on your lifestyle and desired quality of life you won't see a decent paycheck until you upgrade to Captain.

Most guys I know don't even make ends meat. You can probably search each airline's thread to get a glimpse of each, or just look under APC's airline profiles (probably quicker and easier). You can do the math but figure $22-26/fh (rough jet average) with 70-75hr min. Some reserves go above min but there's a lot that don't. If you take out taxes and insurance then you'll probably be standing in the food stamp line. Research next time before you post or you'll end up getting drilled from some of the more elegant users.

I don't know, I averaged 2200-2300/month take home during my first year.

There are a lot of factors at work.

Kind of like you just did to him? He asked what average take home pay was not where he could go to do some research on hourly rates. APC only gives you hourly which doesn't account for taxes, insurance, or anything else.

Does this include per diem? If so it's not an accurate number to plan for.

At Eagle flying on average 90hrs a month I have brought home 2,500 a month. Requires picking up OT and reducing my days off to around 10 days a month.

It does, but let's not go through the per diem debate again.

I spent less the 1/5 of my per diem on the road, so the rest was banked just like any other money. It also included OT, JMs, etc. So if you just want to compute first year hourly rate x min hours per month, then yeah you'll get a figure that looks like poverty, but that is not an accurate number either.
