I spoke with the owner of logbook pro about this. He said if you think you can get a better, more affordable product elsewhere go for it. So I did. And that's what I got. Not a bright man.

What a rotten deal! I had to buy all three apps again to get them to work with v6 and they are BETA quality at best, so many crashes! Think I'm going to request a refund from Apple and switch to Logbook Pro which has a sale through the end of the year. I found this article and I'm going try it.

I just don't understand the argument about paying for an upgrade. You pay Microsoft for an upgrade from XP to 7 operating system. Same goes for Apple system upgrades.

Personally, I would rather pay a one time fee (like Logten) and choose if I want to pay for any upgrades, than buying a product and then be forced to subscribe to that service forever.(like Logbook pro).

SandyLab 12-29-2011 05:37 AM

Log10 is not a one time fee. You have to keep buying it if you want it to keep working. Radar stopped working in the v5 app when iOS 5 released. You had to update your app to get the features working again, which domino's into buying everything so you're trapped into a very expensive ordeal. They discontinued support of a broken app and to get your app to work you have to buy v6. They don't get it that if you buy a new phone you can't use an older version of iOS so when you get iOS 5 on your new iPhone or iPad and your purchased apps are synced in from iTunes they will not work - so you have to buy again and again and again! Robbery! They just keep blaming Apple and won't accept responsibility and fix the issues. No reason they couldn't keep log10 v5 in the app store and fix it and release log10 v6 along side it as they are completely separate and don't talk to each other.

I looked at the Logbook Pro page and the PC edition is a one time purchase, there is no subscription. Check it out at the bottom of Logbook Pro Flight Log Software and they don't charge for updates, their December newsletter states it's 14 years they've been offering free updates. Their apps are free but you just pay the small fee for cloud sync, you pay for one or the other, the app or something else. It's far less expensive at 19.99 a year instead of nearly $300/year with log10 unless you get it at a discount which they were bullied into doing more than one day from the all the screaming. I won't be suckered again!

I am a logbook pro user, and I have to subscribe to the service. I used to have ADPL with them, a product that was an excellent tool for airline pilots. My old pocket pc died, and I will not buy another PDA to carry around for the sole purpose of ADPL.
If I want to maintain something close to that product, i would have now pay for the schedule importer, a service that used to be free at Logbook pro. They even had a downloadable program for schedule importer. They swiftly removed that, and I have to pay 75 dollar pr year. YES 75 PR YEAR!!!

And then we have the joke of a service that they call cloud backup. 19.99 pr year for a one file backup. (They recommend 5) and a fantastic 49.99 pr year!
There are numerous cloud backup services out there for free. I use Dropbox to maintain my logbook pro backups. That is 5 GB of space for free, compared to logbooks 1 file (1-5MB) for 19.99 for free.

Talk about getting sucked? How about getting nickle and dimed for eternity.

s10an 12-29-2011 05:59 AM

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I also have to pay 19.99 pr year to sync the data on my iphone to the desktop... Oh what a good deal:rolleyes:

A quick search of your history and your intention is pretty clear. If you want to advertise your product on here just take out an advertisement.

How do you import your logbook from LogTen pro to the new version? I can't figure it out. When I launched 6.0 it had the option. I followed the instructions but nothing happened. Now I don't know how to transfer to the new 6.0 version.

727_Driver 12-29-2011 09:44 AM

I have researched and used several e-logs over the years and found the two biggest players to be LogTen and Logbook Pro. I have used both and personally got tired of getting screwed over and over again by LogTen. Everytime I turn around there is some new freaking update they want me to pay for. Then I upgrade my phone IOS 5 and I have to pay again ***....

Just do some simple math and you see which one is more economical. Also read the reviews on Apple about the new version...

-Logbook Pro PC edition is 69.95 (on sale now for $59.46)
-Cloud Backup - don't need it but looks neat
-iPhone and iPad universal app is free
-Cloud Sync is 19.99 for a year (on sale for 16.99)
-Schedule Importer, don't need it but it is $120 for two years (on sale for $102 or $4.25/month) and works so much better than log10's which doesn't even work right

Logbook Pro total cost plus apps is $76.45.

log10 desktop - $149.99
log10 iPhone - $49.99
log10 iPad - $79.99

Total for all three to use: $279.97

On sale at 50% off which is $140 and you get to buy it all again with v7 or iOS 6 or whenever they pull the plug on us again. You can spend $1000's paying for all the updates on LogTen. Don't try and buy a binder from them either. I looked and was redirected by them to Logbook Pro.

Dunno just me.

Just a quick note.... The iPhone app for logten works on the iPad. It's just smaller. Syncs fine too. No need to buy the iPad App if you already have it for your iPhone.
