log10 or pro
Im looking to get logbook 10 or logbook pro. I am at a 121 airline. I'm also a terrible record keeper and I need to enter in all my flying so I know it's accurate.
Does anyone recommend one or the other? Maybe someone out there has tried them both... I use the iPhone. The features I like that I've heard about: Auto sync when you turn your phone on. Pro Keeping track of 121 duty times One time fee. 10 I think Auto day/night to/lnd Printing entire log Importing your schedule (it would have to accept a PDF version or something as my airline is based in the 1960s and we have no electronic scheduling available to use) I don't have mac but that isn't that big a deal I could convert something I already have to Mac easy. Are the interfaces pretty much the same (pro/10)? One easier to use than the other? |

I do know that if you have questions or a problem with LogTen it's easy to email the creators and they'll get back to you ASAP, even call you or actually gmail talk to you and access your computer to fix the problem if you have a Mac. Good luck. |
Thanks for the reply! Ive been leaning toward 10. And i will get something to run Mac os if I choose 10.
Can you sync to icloud with 10? |
Log Ten. I switched from Logbook Pro a few months back and there is no comparison.

Ditto. There's another thread about logbooks in general here: http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/re...book-recs.html |

OK so I have a question. If I have logten for iphone, do I have to re-buy the version for ipad when I get one or do I get it for free since I bought it on iphone?

iPhone $50.00 iPad $80.00 MAC $150.00 So basically to run the program on all three platforms it would cost about $280.00. Does that sound about right? Or do they offer discounts for the package? |

Logbook pro professional is about $100 for the PC version, which you have to buy for the App to work, plus $35 per year for cloud sync, plus another $75 per year if you want the schedule importer. From what I can tell, log10 costs are one time fees and the cloud access may be free.
Thinking about switching to Log10, does Log10 offer some type of schedule importer? |
I'm not a MAC guy (at least yet), so I've used LogbookPro for several years now and have been fairly happy with it in general.
That said, I'm not at all pleased with their program for the Android platform - to utilize it I have to pay a monthly fee for the cloud sync. I don't need cloud sync (other than to utilize my phone to enter trips on), and I'm confident I could accomplish a sync via cable or bluetooth if they would make provision for that. I'd happily pay a resonable one time fee to purchase the program rather than shell out every month for the stupid cloud I don't want. To me that's just exploiting me and forcing me to pay you every month - two thumbs down. As a result, if I ever get a (Mac/iPhone/iPad) I'll take a closer look at LogTen. |

Currently use logbook pro, and I have no intention of giving that company another cent.
Thinking about switching to Log10, does Log10 offer some type of schedule importer? My guess for cloud syncing, it'll most likely be free from Coradine, but there would be a fee for using iCloud or whatever Apple is calling it, much like MobileMe is a paid service. |

Yep. Free schedule importing; compatible with most airline scheduling systems.

Log 10:
Is it difficult/possible to print from the ipad or iphone? If i buy the ipad and iphone apps will they sync to each other? I just scanned the icloud web page and it said, i think, you get 5gb for free...is that not enough for this app to sync to icloud? I guess years down the road when we all have the iphone Xs and the ipad 8s will we have to by new applications for each new device and does anyone know how easy it is to transfer all the data...i guess that what the icloud is for. |

Ya, if you sync them currently via Bluetooth or WiFi. I tether a lot with my jailbroken iPhone thru PDAnet and usually sync up that way when my laptop is connected. With iCloud and LogTen 6, syncing will be even easier I just scanned the icloud web page and it said, i think, you get 5gb for free...is that not enough for this app to sync to icloud? Well, my CSV file is 3.9MB. Of course 5GB will be sufficient. I guess years down the road when we all have the iphone Xs and the ipad 8s will we have to by new applications for each new device and does anyone know how easy it is to transfer all the data...i guess that what the icloud is for. Yep, you've got it. It's basically a massive expansion on the current MobileMe platform. |

If you are going the logten route, just a heads up, as of right now you need to upgrade to OSX Lion. I wasn't too happy with that so I posted on their support forum and they let me know that they will have 5.8.2 for Snow Leopard on the app store soon. It will also be eligible for the free upgrade to 6.0. I have been hesitant on upgrading to Lion due to the bad reviews and the fact that some applications are still not working properly on Lion at the moment.

Not really a computer savvy guy, but I think as long as your MAC isn't too old and have a decent amount of memory it should be fine. I have a 2008 MAC and upgraded the memory from 1 GB to 4 GB about a year ago, super easy to do and it really sped up my computer . |

Most people I know use the iPhone or the iPad, not both. Yes, you have to pay for each individually but you pay for what you get. It's the best platform out there plus the support, by far, is the greatest hands down.
I'm officially done with Logbook Pro, their programs are expensive as is and I'm not a fan of trying to milk loyal customers for more money. Screw that. If anything I just want the desktop program to upload my schedule and keep track of my log book, and download info back and forth between my iphone. If that will cost me $200 with no monthly usage fees, then I think it may work, but not interested in getting surcharged again in a year for something I've already paid for. |
I also have the 2008ish Unibody MacBook. I upgraded a few months ago from 4GB of RAM to 8GB. It was well worth the upgrade. I have been reading many people with Office 2011 and Adobe CS 5 problems. I really don't want to risk loosing my projects if I can prevent it. Eventually I will go ahead and upgrade, but it does make you think how apple and developers can give you a run for your money requiring upgrades just to purchase their software. I'd understand if Snow Leopard was aged like Windows XP is today, but it was just a mere 3 months since Lion was released. ok enough ranting.
OP - good luck with your decision. |
Thank you every one for your input. This is what i decided to do and why:
I am getting the cheapest no frills version of Logbook Pro. I really wanted Logten but i am converting all my old logbooks to electronic ones. I dont have a Mac so i cant sit down and data input over the computer i would have had to do it via Ipad/Iphone. Thats just to much for me. Also Logbook pro gives you 30 days free schedule import which if they can get it to work with the limited electronic schedules i have access to than it may make logging my last three years a lot easier (emailing back and forth now with IT). Also, if i get all my data entered and start using the iphone app and hate it I can export to excel, convert to .csv, and import to logten. Wala! So thats it. I hope this works out as well as i hope it does. Quick question. I was reading that pro will not recognized time zones unless you enter them in that time zone with phone on. Or if you are using the schedule importer you can enter all the airports you flying to and assign them time zones. This means you cant input local OUT/IN times unless youve done one of those two things. Is this the case with Logten or does it handle time zones automatically so you can enter local times only. |

Anyone know if theres a way to finagle LogTen into working with an Android phone? I had a PC, but switched to a MacBook, yet I still have my Android phone (I think im the only person on the face of the earth to have an Apple computer and an Android phone). Currently I run LogBook Pro through VMWare Fusion (a windows emulator) on my Mac, and it syncs with my phone. Any way to have the phone and Mac talk to each other through LogTen?
|
Good points but you'll want better. Log10 calling will be in the back of your mind ha ha
|
Lol it already is :D I just didn't want input 8 years of flying on my phone...

I have had Log book Pro for over 9 years. I am now switching over to log10. I will not pay for things that have been free since I staring using it. I can no longer recommend Logbook Pro due to the poor busniess decisions being made by the managment to charge the long time user for the service which where provided for free.
|
If you were to start out with Logbook Pro and decided to get an iPad and switch to LogTen, would LogTen import the Logbook Pro data?

Log10 charging everyone full price for the new versions again? So if I bought 2 months ago I now have to pay another nearly $300 for the updates? Seems like people are complaining about having to pay nearly $300/year for Log10??? Doesn't seem like a good deal to me!

If you bought LogTen Pro within the last few months, you get a free upgrade to the new version when it comes out. Before that deadline, you have to pay to upgrade, but it isn't at the full price. Upgrade pricing is separate and much less (I think 50% off or something like that) than buying it all over again. Any upgrades within the version number you have are free. It's just like any other software you would buy. At least Coradine doesn't nickel and dime you like Logbook Pro does to do simple tasks like schedule importing that should be free. |
Logbook pro sucks. They are greedy. I hope they tank. Im also looking to switch to log 10.
|
Does Log10 for the iPad have a schedule importer feature?
|
I wish I had seen this thread or done more research. I purchased Logbook Pro and misread the fine print that it must run on a Windows OS. My error 100% for not reading the fine print. Now I have the program running on my Mac via Virtual Machine and Windows 7 which wound up being a lot more costly & cumbersome than I had planned.

LogTen is half price right now through the end of the year. Excellent deal!
