Delta has had a program like that since the mid-90s. They called it Comair Aviation Academy / Comair Airlines / ASA Airlines.

In the last 12 years I have known hundreds of instructors, students, and friends that have learned to fly Delta's way and have flown RJs for Delta-owned and Delta-run regionals. Delta has controlled every aspect of this pilot pipeline.

Out of these hundreds of pilots, how many do I know that were hired by Delta? Three.

The UND Ponzi scam has been pulled before. Lots of luck to anyone that pays $200,000 to possibly have a shot at a chance to maybe interview at Delta someday.

Yeah, a conditional offer of employment at ASA and a conditional offer of an interview at Delta.

That will take someone alot longer to do than if they just went out and did it on there own... UNd cfis dont fly much, sit reserve forever at ASA.... Ya RACK up those hours.

Who knows what hour minimums will be required. They will probably allow their "advanced jet systems" and "CRM theory" classes to take place of actual flight experience.

Delta can make whatever minimums they like and for this group, I could see Delta pushing them through quickly to get them to mainline ASAP to see how viable this program might be for future pilot needs.

Just think, Delta could hire just military pilots, like they traditionally have and civilian pilots from programs like this. This will ensure that they have candidates with clean backgrounds and no skeletons in their closet (Marvin Renslow) for the media to feast over, if there is an accident in the future.

You do realize that Delta's minimums are only 1200 total and 1000 turbine (including SIC). Through this program, as long as an individual meets these mins, they can get a guaranteed interview, while those who have applied for 2+ years with 4-5k+ hours get nothing. Even on reserve at ASA, getting a 1000 turbine probably can't take more than 1.5 to 2 yrs.

Dude you sound like a UND freshmen handing out koolaide. This has been tried before and didn't work, and this was in the late 90's when the economy was rolling and majors were actually hiring, also before the 1500 hour rule. Keep hoping though, that's how places like UND and ERAU convince you to shell out all the cash!

This is a brilliant move by all involved. The university and the airlines get highly motivated candidates who will self-fund their flight training and who will do anything to keep the Delta interview. It's the ultimate carrot. The companies get "yes men" and the candidate, who has to suck it up for a few years, gets an interview at the big "D"!

At least those guys can get hired to fly an RJ. They have the university training to do so.
