Cheapest fare from uptown to ewr

hey everybody, just curious if anyone has ever done this living in the city, and if so, wht is the cheapest way to get to the airport... seems to me doin the path from 33rd st. to newark penn, then the airtrain into the airport would be cheapest, but let me kno if there are any cheaper options... thanx!

A cheaper option is to take the NJ PATH to NJ Penn Station and then get the 62 bus to EWR. Total cost of $3.50, but with the double subway transfer and bus transfer, it can take 1.5 to 2 hours to get to the airport. Also, on weekends, the NJ PATH runs a modified line, which means it takes longer to get to NJ Penn Station.

The best option is the Newark to New York Express. It is $15 one way, but if you are an employee and buy 10 tickets at a time, it ends p being only $7 each way. You pick up the bus at the Port Authority Bus Station and it drops you off at each terminal. Commute time is only 35 minutes. They say they leave every 15 minutes, but if you actually look at the schedule, it is more like every 30 minutes.

I just moved to NYC and commuted using the PATH/62 bus combination at first but I got real sick of the time I wasted waiting from the bus. The Newark New York Express is great, but the earliest it can get you to the airport is 5:35 AM, so make sure your show times aren't too early.

I've been doing the NJ transit from NY Penn straight to the airport, I'm starting to get pretty sick of it as well. Its not the cheapest but they have monthly passes, and 10x trip passes, if you are a line holder its worth the money. I live on the lower east side, I take two subway trains and then the NJ transit train, if I had to do any more transfers I'd kill myself.

If you are coming from Manhattan I would highly suggest getting there in as little transfers as possible, its worth the money.

wait... so can u get one train from ny penn to the terminals? i thought nj transit brought u to the newark airport train station, which u then need to pay to take the airtrain into the airport

you can catch a train from ny penn right to the airtrain. cost is about 15 each way.

if you have the time, the cheapest option is to take a subway to the path to newark penn then jump on the 62 bus which will drop you off right in front of each terminal.

i lived in hoboken which made going to work super easy because you can have a car living there. 3am journey's some after partying down in the village wasn't super fun though but if you are living uptown like harlem or upper west/east side i would say it isn't that much more of a hike to go to hoboken.

I think if you are ewr based hoboken is a great option

Cheapest:

If it is a weekend and you are not in uniform you can hop on the IKEA bus from the Port Authority Bus terminal near 40th and 8th. Ikea has buses that leave every hour. Once you get to Ikea, you can walk to the Employee lot and get on the bus.

Ive never done it, but it is a possibility.

A cheaper way would be to find an outsourced cab company. Where the drivers make less pay and have worse working conditions than those cabbies of the larger yellow cab type companies. Then you should do everything possible to save the last dollar never thinking of safety.
