About 7 or 8 years ago I was on a DH on a UA 777 from ORD to IAD, then scheduled to operate a flight 30 min after block in. I was one of the last to board due to full flight and the gate agent wouldn't let me down early. Naturally no overhead space. They also wouldn't gate check/valet tag it for me to pick up at the gate in IAD. I went up to the cockpit and told the guys what was going on and asked If I could stash my bag and flight case in their closet. The captain refused. I told him about my 30 minutes before I was supposed to work a flight and really didn't want to go to baggage claim. His response was basically tough luck. Thankfully the lead FA heard what transpired and she let me put my stuff in their closet.

777 from ORD to IAD? My gosh how things have changed...

I dont know about you guys, but my flight case fits perfectly underneath the seat in front of me laid down flat (though it severely limits legroom). Couldn't that be considered my "personal" item, then have my overnight back up in the bin, and be inside the 1+1 rule? Obviously if you also have a small duffle then there might be a problem.

Every flight after a deadhead im scheduled to fly will be delayed due to this. No skin off my back. The more flights are delayed, the more likely they are going to start using common sense.....or maybe not

well as much as I hate to even think this but maybe force mainline guys to check their bags when they ride a regional and see how fast they get it reversed. It is almost the same as jump seating where ours is open if yours is open.

Boy, I sure hope those baggage handlers don't lose a flight kit and they have to cancel xx flights, that policy will be reversed. Not to mention someone will have to buy me a new Bose.

Can you use the flight kit as the 1 personal item if you just have that and a carry on? Also this is just mainline correct?

Similar situation here. Only I had to check my bags. So I went all the way out to baggage claim, waited about 45 minutes for them to show up, went back in through security, etc. So the plane I deadheaded to where I was supposed to have 50 minutes to get there from scheduled block in ended up going out late. That's fine, if a company wants to delay flights because of stupid policies, let them.

Not sure what type of case you have, but a standard one won't fit under a seat without blocking the aisle. Especially if you're in the seat that has the little silver IFE box. On a 777, if you're on the side row you can lay it sideways to fit, assuming the person next to you doesn't care.

The overhead bins on most 767's and 777's flat out suck as far storing bags go.

It doesn't apply to deadheading. It only applies to non working crew members.

True, it only applies to non working crewmembers;

Second, only working or deadheading Inflight Services or Flight Operations co-workers are exempt from the 1 1 limit.....
Hoever, if you're not a "mainline coworker" YET deadheading, it doesn't matter. If you're with a regional yet DH'ing on mainline, well........

.......This flight bag exception applies only to mainline co-workers.
