Just got a reject letter from AE as not being competitive enough, reapply in 6 months. 8,000 hrs and CRJ typed; time to get a real job. Guess I need 10,000 hrs, good luck.

I don't see how that is possible. We have newhire classes that are suppose to be 20 and only 2 show up. I would reapply anyway and see what happens.

Can anyone say "Pilot Shortage"? It's happening as we speak. The pool of 700/125 pilots is drying up. The regionals are losing pilots to the majors which are hiring. The majors which aren't hiring are recalling.
If quality regionals are having a hard time staffing airplanes it says a lot. |

I disagree - I think more and more people are "opting out" of the regionals all together. 2 of the CA's that recently left my company left 1) to become a firefighter and 2) to become an electrican. Some *are* leaving for the majors but not in the droves your post would elude to.
But we are also losing some to major pax and freight haulers, so there are jobs out there. And there will continue to be more as long as we don't have another major issue like a terror attack, SARS-like event or huge fuel price spike. Just talked to another guy this morning who is having his last day at a regional before he starts at Southwest. |
