Default American Eagle Desparate for Pilots

American Eagle has informed employees to refer their friends for pilot positions. American Eagle is currently short staffed and are expecting to have 450 captain positions open up to do American Airline pilots returning to AA. AMR corporation has anounced that American Airlines will begin recalling furloughed pilots as of Jan 2007. For those of you who are interested you can apply at www.aa.com by clicking American Eagle careers link. Good luck.

Just got a reject letter from AE as not being competitive enough, reapply in 6 months. 8,000 hrs and CRJ typed; time to get a real job. Guess I need 10,000 hrs, good luck.

I don't see how that is possible. We have newhire classes that are suppose to be 20 and only 2 show up. I would reapply anyway and see what happens.

where did you work before? I don't think you got rejected because of lack of hours.

Can anyone say "Pilot Shortage"? It's happening as we speak. The pool of 700/125 pilots is drying up. The regionals are losing pilots to the majors which are hiring. The majors which aren't hiring are recalling.

If quality regionals are having a hard time staffing airplanes it says a lot.

I disagree - I think more and more people are "opting out" of the regionals all together. 2 of the CA's that recently left my company left 1) to become a firefighter and 2) to become an electrican. Some *are* leaving for the majors but not in the droves your post would elude to.

We might work for the same company. I know that many are just leaving the industry. I am happy they are finding better lives doing something else. I also know a guy who left to join the fire dept. where he lives.

But we are also losing some to major pax and freight haulers, so there are jobs out there. And there will continue to be more as long as we don't have another major issue like a terror attack, SARS-like event or huge fuel price spike.

Just talked to another guy this morning who is having his last day at a regional before he starts at Southwest.
