Hat Policy

Which regionals mandate hats, and which allow them to be optional.

Salukipilot4590 04-13-2012 09:57 AM

Yours mandates a hat.

Hey, where's Capt Carl??

Optional at Skywest by the way

johnso29 04-13-2012 10:45 AM

I think GoJet is the only one.

fullflank 04-13-2012 10:57 AM

I would be surprised if any airline other than DL requires a hat. Hats in my opinion are a thing of the past. They dont represent what they used to. I think a hat makes it more likely that a pax will ask you to load their bags in the car.

Diver Driver 04-13-2012 11:00 AM

<-- Optional. Most don't wear it. Comair required it, but that's probably just a Delta thing.

BlueMoon 04-13-2012 11:08 AM

Compass requires it.

WalkOfShame 04-13-2012 11:38 AM

Air Wisconsin technically requires it

Agreed. I've been mistaken for a skycap many times.

I believe 9e won't even pay half. If you want it that bad you have to pay for the whole thing yourself.

At 9E (pre-merger at least) I'd guess about 5% of the CA's wore hats, and about 90% of those that did tended to be douches. There are some really great guys out there who wear the hat, but they are in the minority. I think I've only seen 1-2 FO's who wear the hat. One of them is quite odd (always wears sunglasses in the terminal, etc).

Hey, that odd FO is me you're talkin' about!

Actually not. :D. Rant--I hate having to remember my "cover" when outside for the military. Just another thing to take up space in your hand or pocket.

Oh. And hats still required at Comair...it's kept quite a bit of deice fluid off my head!

Woah! Wait a minute! I think I may have actually seen this guy. Does he by chance, carry a guitar on his back too? I think I was in Chicago at the time, not sure.

bernouli 04-13-2012 05:58 PM

Gojet just relaxed their policy for the summer months. More companies technically mandate it than I thought ...

Not quite correct. They will reimburse you for it if:

1. prior to purchase you submit a request form in triplicate
2. send in five copies of the receipt (one on white paper, two on goldenrod, one tarragon, and one pearlized opal)
3. you can wield a crow bar big enough to pry it out of SM's tight-fisted claw.

You forgot that the receipts must be delivered by a midget dressed like Elvis on Fridays between 1618 and 1622.

Nm...

Classic Delta story: A Captain's hat blew off and was run over by a truck. His claim to be reimbursed for the cost of a new one was denied, so on the next trip, he told the S/O: "Let me fill out the pay sheet this time."
When the pay sheet was turned in, clerks were puzzled by a note in the "remarks" section: "The hat's in there. You find it." :D

Dejavu 04-13-2012 09:10 PM

I LOVE MY HAT ! maybe its just cause i wear a baseball cap all the time ,I feel naked . sorry Hat Haters .

skypine27 04-14-2012 12:46 AM

Fdx: No. Though more than several complete douche bags wear it.

Sorry for the cargo intrusion.

Semaphore Sam 04-14-2012 02:13 AM

OF COURSE hats are mandatory! When you get to hotel room, gather wallet, lanyard, keys, all visible hotel pens (and any other potential usable crap) and put into hat. At wake-up call (5 min before bus leaves), throw on clothes, gather hat-crap, throw hat into suitcase or flight kit (until in next hotel room), and run. Hat is always worth 3-4 minutes extra sleep. Hat is ESSENTIAL! Sam
