ATP for FO's
For your debating pleasure:
I postulate that the single most effecive way to improve pilot pay and QOL is to require that both pilots in part 121 operations to hold an ATP certificate. OK flame on.:) |
that's retarded...wtf does holding another piece of paper mean...
I've flown 135 with tools that have 2500 hrs and a ATP, they still didn't know there a$$ from there elbow and flew like crap too. |
There would still be people who would run out and buy an ATP and still sign on the dotted line for a $19/hr regional job.
The pilots coming into these jobs are CHOOSING to do that. Mesa is not forcing anyone to fly for them, Big Sky is not forcing anyone to fly for them. The fact is simple, there is NO SHORTAGE of pilots begging for those jobs. That is where the problem lies. The mentality that using the regionals, at $19/hr as a stepping stone just to get 1000 turbine PIC to get on with SWA or Continental is what is keeping wages low. If starting wages are to come up at the 121 regionals, the new pilots have to stop asking for the jobs. We send the resumes to them, they are not sending you a subpeona to appear on the flightdeck. |

It would just mean more hours out on the CFI or 135 scene, but in the end folks will continue to apply. The responsibility lies with the senior members of each pilot group, not the guys on reserve that can't vote for a year! |

What if there was no 1000hr PIC turbine requirement for majors? Would people rush out to Mesa/etc to get the PIC time? Maybe just change it to 2000hrs turbine time or something like that.

in an effort to encourage more flames.....chew on this:
i think ANYONE flying passengers around should hold an ATP!!! it only makes sense, why trust the lives of hundreds of people to some low time pilots... flame on...... |

Few people could afford to buy 1500 hours, so almost everyone would have to actually hold a cfi/135 job prior to the airlines. Good learning experience, and they would be more savvy about the ways of the world after that experience...less likely to take a job at mesa. |
Good idea it would certainly slow the supply of wannabe pilots & increase our demand as wannabe professionals.
|
and increase the backlog at flight schools around the country...I know mine would have ups and downs, post 9/11 we had more guys that we wanted, couldn't get rid of anyone, and couldn't hire anyone new...Flood gates opened for a little while earlier this year with about 7 of 30 leaving, they hired 11 more, and filled the void...
