Getting your job back - ALPA carrier

Well as the thread title implies, I am trying to get information/advice/be flamed or mocked about whether I have any recourse. I voluntarily left my my last carrier just over 2 weeks ago to start a new job. Things did not pan out in my shiny new corporate gig as their need for a pilot no longer exists. I was one week into training when I got the boot. The obvious answer is for me to email my rep, err former rep, but before I do that I just wanted to get advice from the masses. Is there anything I can do, or am I basically screwed? What a great industry this is!

Thanks in advance for any helpful responses/advice. Flame suit on, but be gentle. I haven't had time to fully digest it all!

I don't have any helpfull advice because I have no experience in the subject, but from one pilot to another I hope you recieve the help you are looking for, and you can get your old job back

Your old carrier's contract might have had a provision for rescinding a resignation.

We do not at Eagle, I just looked for ya. That was my nice thing of the day. Now on the flip side I want to move up a number =).

I hope you get it back, at Eagle they seem to give idiots who get fired their jobs back all too often maybe they will allow someone who quits to come back too.

If I had to guess though your screwed, sorry.

If you gave proper notice and were otherwise in good standing with the company I'm sure they will take you back (if they are hiring).

You will start all over at the bottom of the list, but since you are still current they'll save a butt-load of money not training you. Worst case they might have to give you a PC.

As far as getting you old number back? No way. Some contracts may have a provision to rescind a resignation but as far as I know that only applies up until your last day...not after you leave. Nobody is going to stick up for you to jump a bunch folks to get your old place in line back. But you might as well ask your union reps and find out for sure.

I might be tempted to sue the corporate operator since you gave up a seniority number based on their offer. Nothing illegal about what they did, but nothing says you can't sue them either (unless you signed a binding arbitration agreement, in which case you're probably screwed). Talk to a lawyer.

You quit your job to go somewhere else and things didn't work out so you want to go back as if nothing happened? Welcome to the real world, things just don't work out that way.

Oh they do all too often, esp at Eagle. We had a guy get caught changing the ACARs times and adding 5 minutes at the start and end of legs, he got fired, well he is back.

At XJT you need to be a close friend of a member of the MEC to come back with your old seniority, pay longevity, ... If you aren't in the circle of bubba deals then you are swinging a hammer until you can get rehired at year 1 pay.

If I were you I would beg and plead with the people that screwed you over and ask them to help you find another gig. It is a small world and everybody has friends. If you don't mind my asking what kind of experience do you have or what type ratings do you have? I tried to do the charter thing concurrently with the 121 gig and it was a nightmare in retrospect. I like the structure of 121 flying and the ability to build decent time to move on in the future. Flying 20 hours a month in a citation is fun and you see nice places but you aren't going anywhere fast.

Someone please tell me what other profession puts you back to "Start" anytime you switch companies? "Oh, about that 18 years of experience you have, yeah, mmmm, we are going to start you at year one with all the guys fresh out of trade school, mmmkay?"
