Leaving 9E for another regional?
I've always told myself I'd never do it. However, with the company's concession proposals and not holding requirements for places like Virgin or Spirit, I'm looking to different avenues. Any suggestions?

A lot already have, I'm looking to do the same soon. Just be sure you're doing it for the right reasons. Best of luck to you!

I left 9L in December for SkyWest. At the time I (before looming furlough) I recognized it as a lateral move. However I only had 9 months invested, I was commuting to IAH to fly about 10 hours a month, and SkyWest had a base in the city my girlfriend and I had intentions of moving to. We currently live there and I'll be based at home starting June 1st. I took a pay cut to come here and started the 1st year pay clock over, but I broke guarantee last month and earned much more than I was at a higher hourly rate at Colgan, per diem not included, though that adds to the total compensation. I completely agree that doing it for the right reason is important, however I'm happy with my decision and life post-Pinnacle Inc has never been better. I know how foolish lateral moves usually are and I don't know anything about your longevity or personal situation, but sometimes pulling the rip chord and starting over is the best move, at least in the short term. I surely hope my decision proves to be wise in the long term, but for right now I've got no complaints.

December? nice job seeing the writing on the wall. a lot of us were still trying to be positive back then.
Do you want to know the real truth? I was extremely lucky. I was on the chopping block for displacement back during 11-08, so I started shopping around in September. I figured it couldn't hurt but I probably wouldn't bail because lateral moves are always dumb, right? I got the class date at SkyWest for November, but I figured I'd turn it down when the 11-09 vacancy came out and suddenly not only had I held my seat, but I was going to be a line holder on the Q and was 3 months from 2nd year pay. SkyWest bumped my class date back by a month. No matter, I figured, I'm not going to take it anyway. The day Pinnacle came out with the initial "hey we're broke" statement back on December 9th was 3 days before I had to give SkyWest the final answer about my now delayed class. I wanted to be positive back then too, and for all I knew, the day after I left Pinnacle was going to pull the trigger on 60 more Q's and I'd look like the biggest idiot on earth. I had 3 days to make a decision and I chose to leave. Mainly because I could live in base at SkyWest but not Pinnacle. If SkyWest doesn't bump my class by a month I'm furloughed this summer. If Pinnacle makes that announcement 4 days later I'm furloughed this summer. I'd be lying if I said I was anything other than amazingly fortunate to have ended up where I am now. I'd also be foolish to say that while this appears to have been favorable in the short term, what's happening to you guys could happen to any of us in the near future. I'm very happy with my new company and I really enjoy my new job but you're not going to find me gloating. I had a tough choice to make and I made the right one in hindsight, but luck and timing were the real hero here. But in all seriousness, I've got a lot of friends who are still there and I wish you all the best whether you stick it out or come sling gear for me someday ;) |

It sounds like Compass will have major movement soon. The chief pilot, who's a standup guy, says he fully expects to flow 25% of our pilots to Delta in 2013. Sounds like Delta has talked to him about their hiring plans. I know it's a lateral move but where else do u have a chance at a 2 year upgrade and a guaranteed interview at Delta? I bailed from Horizon after 5 years and I'm glad I did. Looks like I'll upgrade 4 years sooner than I would have. It's a hard pill to swallow but if your an FO I'd get out for sure.
