AWAC mins

I just noticed on AWAC's pilot hiring page the mins are posted 1000/250. What happened to 1000/100? Anyone know whats realistic for getting hired there?

GliderCFI 10-30-2006 05:49 AM

Also, I just saw this as well...

"We are accepting resumes from pilots with a first class medical, and ATP or ATP written and minimum of: 1,000 hours total time and 250 hours multi-engine, turbine time. FAR 121 experience preferred."

fosters 10-30-2006 06:20 AM

1000/100 were never the "published" minimums, at least in the past 2 years. In fact, prior to that I believe they were 1500/250 and prior to that they were 2500/1000 multi 500 turbine.

They did hire below that when they needed people or guys from internal recs. Keep in mind the company, with one of the the highest scheduled 121 pay scales in the country, can be pretty selective now that they are hiring 6-10 people per month. A lot are 121/135 people. Although, all classes are done for the year. Look for another small class in early 2007.

I thought BF's email said they were considering one more class...

They *are* continuing interviews through the end of this year, to establish a pool for classes after the first of the year. Thats alot of interviews for potential FOs...unless there is some new flying coming that we haven't been told about yet:cool:

Something I'm confused about is their lack of upgrading captains. 15 quit, 8 upgrade.

saab2000 10-30-2006 09:50 AM

There will be more upgrades soon.

I think they are trying to stay slightly fat on F/Os in case we have to ramp up for something. Not implying anything, but we all know they are trying for some more flying. If we got something and got behind the curve with pilots it would not be good.

I don't know much about the current attrition, but I did just talk to PP and he said they are currently upgrading about a half dozen per month.

Getting closer.....

6/month still puts me over 2 years from upgrade, and I've been here over a year. Ouch. Where are you guys?

We are definitely fat on FO's. I never flew once on my long call days which = ZERO open time. When I first got here there was open time out the wazoo.

BoilerUP 10-30-2006 10:07 AM

Last I heard they are already doling out LC trips for the middle of November for FOs in both PHL & DCA.

With steady attrition at 12 CAs/mo, I'll be at the current junior CA in about 23-25 months. With the number of people I've heard about getting calls at UPS/CAL/SWA/Frontier recently, that number is only likely to increase IMO.

Drops are being approved next to never these days because of 'maintain RSV coverage' yet there is no opentime and LCs are either killed all mount or not used at all. Weird...

saab2000 10-30-2006 10:19 AM

I will be upgrading sooner I guess. I am about 30-40 spots away. But upgrades will increase. I am confident of that.

I am in ORF and bidding top 10. But if you guys are in ORF you will move up one soon. I am bidding back to DCA.

I am confident that the 6/month upgrades will increase slightly. Don't worry about the eternal upgrade. Things will change. When I started here it was about 3 years. Slowed down a bit then really picked up. I just flew with a guy who was awarded upgrade at 2.5 years. I am right now at 2.5 years and am getting close.

I think 3 years will be about right. Guys and gals are getting picked up on a regular basis by 'real' airlines like SWA, CAL, FedEx, UPS, etc.

You really don't want to do that. DC is expensive, and you have to walk to the trailer park ('da world) in bad weather & wind, and the schedules suck terribly, and all the parings do LGA turns. Did I mention DCA crews always fly the ex-Midway airplanes and the river visual is waaaaaaaaay too much work.

Trust me. I'm only looking out for you...:D

dacm313 10-30-2006 10:30 AM

Any AWAC pilots that are looking for a FREE crashpad about 30-40 mins from DCA please pm me for details. :D

I'm not disagreeing with you, but ORF had one FO leave for upgrade in October (staffing date 11/1/06) and he has been here over 3 years. And he was the most junior CA in that upgrade class.

I think you saw upgrade drop because of the furloughs and lack of hiring the company did back 3+ years ago. There were a lot of classes in 2004 and on, however and it will take them longer to work their way thru those folks.

Do you have a hire date for the most junior CA awarded upgrade w/ staffing date of 12/1/06?

One of my good buddies is about to go on his IOE. He had 1200TT and 850 ME Turbine SIC with a scheduled 135 carrier when he was hired. Another guy in his class had around 550 TT (I'm not sure how much multi). My buddy applied with 1000TT and 650 turbine, he waited 2 months before he finally had somebody walk his stuff in and then got the call in less than 2 weeks.

From what I've heard quite a few people get hired below mins with an internal rec.

My point is that they aren't upgrading all the spots the captains leave behind. Look at the attrition ##'s posted on airwillypilots and then look at the upgrade awards. In September-October time frame 17 captains left - 5 upgraded. There was even a two month time period with zero upgrades while people left.

You are DCA based aren't you? I love the River Visual. :D

I was based at DCA 5 months last winter before returning to PHL. I am now in ORF and hating life there. DCA is spendy, but so is ORF and there is a life in DCA. The city is accessible by Metro, I have family and friends there, etc. I can't believe I ever wanted to try ORF.

Sorry for the diversion.....

Mins are whatever it takes to get the job.....

It'd be nice to get into Air Whisky...i got 750/130 and atp written but still no calls from anyone. AHHH

groovinaviator 10-30-2006 04:19 PM

I got a call without a reccomendation last May... The resume I had sent them had just over 500 TT 300 multi. Class started in June and I had just under 700TT with over 2/3's of it multi and over 1/3 of it jet. Guy's have been getting picked up pretty low time so I would keep trying. My sim partner had just under 300TT... although he knew someone high up!

LOL, I already tried that. I offered a free crashpad near DCA....that would save someone about $2,500 a year.

Have you tried Republic? They have some east coast bases.

AWAC is just a regional. No need to go bribing people into getting you an interview. Hiring is slow. You're about 12 months late - last year at this time they couldn't get enough qualified people in.

That being said, it'll pick up again after the holidays I'd bet. Keep trying. Email, fax, and snail mail your resume once a month.

hatetobreakit2u 10-31-2006 05:01 PM

i wouldnt mind repub either but i keep seeing posted mins at 1500 and dont wanna hang around my current place for another 500
