positiverate76 07-05-2012 05:49 PM

I am in the market for the regionals, would just like to know what states would be more suitable to relocate for my career in the short to medium term.

I'm just curious for the information, can you help me?

I appreciate it.

Thanks

For Expressjet on the ERJ side people were getting EWR or CLE right out of training lately. Some got to ORD or IAH too but that seamed to be less frequent. What you may have trouble with is getting the training scheduled, since there are no classes planned for the summer and nobody knows what's gonna happen after that. I wouldn't count on too much hiring any time soon. I can't really talk too much about the CRJ side but from what I heard ATL is the most senior with 4 year FOs on reserve. Good luck!

Diver Driver 07-05-2012 06:15 PM

CommutAir is now SYR.

higney85 07-05-2012 07:28 PM

9E isn't listed but...

JFK
DTW
MSP
ATL
MEM

In order of seniority requirements at the bottom, although for FO ATL and MEM are about the same.

Red97Vette 07-05-2012 07:34 PM

At express jet for the CRJ it's IAD, DTW, ATL

Only the 700/900 in ATL is 4 yr reserve. Everyone else holds a line well under 2 years.

Red97Vette 07-06-2012 06:18 AM

At ASA there are guys on the 700 at year 5 now on reserve. My buddy just went back to the 200 in atl just to hold a line.

Correct, however, they haven't hired since 2008... and probably won't ever hire again.

DSRoss996 07-06-2012 08:40 AM

Shuttle America is IND and CMH

Define short to medium term?

In my first 4 years and 10 months I went through 5 base closures/displacements. Do the math on how often I would have had to pick up and move had I done it every time.

And this is why I scoff at people who tell other people to move/live in base at a regional for QOL.

Too many subjective/relative factors for that statement to be an absolute. I'd NEVER argue that living in base (regardless of regional, LCC, Legacy, whatever) provides a better QOL measured in time off, commute/PITA factor, social life, family time, whatever.

But QOL while living in base and dealing with base closures/displacements are not exactly the SAME thing. Like I said, you're talking to someone that went through FIVE in just under 5 years, and had #6 happen at the 8 year point.

With all that crap being said, I rather just simply live where I do and commute for the lifestyle and outdoor activities it provides me, and make life LESS of a PITA by just calling one place home. I moved to base ONCE, probably NEVER do it again.

However, if I had been younger when I went through all that crap and wasn't concerned with little things like progressing in life, trying to buy a home, start a family, I would have considered moving as 4 of those bases were pretty cool cities/areas that would have been fun to live in. Again, for a young person with not much to worry about, etc.

ShyGuy 07-07-2012 08:38 AM

Since you had Virgin America in the list, SFO is what everyone gets right off the bat as a newhire. You can bid LAX pretty much right away, and get it before training ends. JFK is super senior, and will take 1.5 to 2 years to hold.

Flyer21 07-07-2012 12:45 PM

If Someone from each company answer the following question.

For gojet what is junior base. If not ORD how long till seniority can hold it?

For shuttle America I know ind and cmh are junior. How long to get ord. I know atl is senior but how long to hold that

Thanks

slumav505 07-08-2012 04:20 AM

Chq - SDF and CMH, but you will probably get to ORD or LGA pretty quickly. The other two are fairly senior.

Herb Flemmming 07-08-2012 07:27 AM

How senior is GSO at Republic?

Thanks

Junior meaning 14 years to hold rsv captain. Somebody recently told me 24 years for cvg.... insane.

positiverate76 07-16-2012 09:56 AM

Guys,

What do you think is the chance of a new hire getting the following bases and what's an approximate time frame to hold a line based at these domiciles:

AWAC
LGA, DCA

Trans States
IAD

Expressjet
CRJ (IAD) ERJ (EWR)

Republic
DCA

CHQ
LGA

Shuttle America
LGA

Expressjet
CRJ (IAD) ERJ (EWR)

DCA (Last new hire class had four go there but as of right now it is full. Unless there is movement, no chance. I believe the most junior line holder is an '07 or '08 hire. PIT is the most junior base for FO's on the 170. Good chance of getting the Q though if hired on this cert.)

CHQ
LGA

Shuttle America
LGA (No chance. Last new hire class, everyone got IND or CMH.)

rcfd13 07-16-2012 08:18 PM

At Skywest the most junior base on the EMB is FAT and on the CRJ is MSP but people seem to be getting a variety of stuff out of training. The most recent EMB class had a few people get PDX which is pretty senior, and an entire recent new hire class on the CRJ got SLC.

Just looking at the numbers here are the most junior bases:

EMB: FAT, PSP, SLC

CRJ: MSP, ORD, IAH, COS

DryMotorBoatin 07-18-2012 06:26 AM

You'll get lga right out of training at awac. Maybe dca too but dca will take you longer to get a line.

Took me a year to hold a line at DCA...
