Level D sim
I know there are threads about this already, but they are old and not in this section of the site so I wanted to hopefully get the opinion of more people.
If I have, say 1470 hours TT, can I NOT USE 40 hours of level D sim time to bring me up to 1500 to meet the ATP mins? This matters because I'll be going through AQP in a couple of weeks and without the sim time, I'll be just shy of ATP mins and have to wait a year. I've got people saying yes, and people saying no. If I can get typed in an aircraft (using a level D sim) without ever touching it, wouldn't all that time count? References?? |
You can use 50 hours of SIMULATOR time toward a new certificate.
Enjoy your type ride broheim! |

61.159 says you can if the sim is certified under part 142...
|
So The Sim must Be operated inlue of a 142 program.

Thanks, this is what I was looking for and don't have the FARs with me. So the 100 hours that can be applied can't come from 121 initial, recurrent, etc... GREAT

FAR 61.159 spells it out.
You can use 25 hours (or 50 hours for part 142) of sim specifically time towards the 75 hours of instrument time. If you already have the required instrument time I'm not sure that you can use generic sim time to boost your total, that's not the way the FAR reads. You can however use 100 hours of sim time if you are doing an approved course at a part 142 training center. You will need to ask around to figure out if your training is part 142. If it's done in-house by a 121 carrier it's probably not. If it's contracted out to CAE or someone like that it might be (or it might not). |
Using sim time towards a rating is fine.
Using sim time towards total time is not allowed. The simulator never left the ground so how can it be flight time? Total time does not include sim time. |

It can NOT count towards TOTAL FLIGHT TIME unless in an approved part 142 training program. Period.
