Default Comair CRJ700s

Has anyone noticed the row of "patched bullet holes" down the sides of Comair's CRJ700s? I used to see them all the time on walkarounds.

They look like a wavy line of repair spots going down the fuselage sides from the nose to wing. Maybe 10-12 spots, with a foot or two between them. They look like a bad bondo job with a crappy coat of paint slapped on top, each the size of a drink coaster.

I always wondered what they were, but never remembered to ask anyone before Comair shut the doors.

Do other guys have these on their 700s?

I had a lightning strike in a 700 once. The strike was on the nose, went along the right side of the fuselage and exited at the lower, aft nav light. A maintenance guy showed us the path. It sounds like you may have seen it. I think the ship no. was 10079.

You are right. The lightning strikes I've seen create this kind of line, it might not be a straight line, maybe a little curve in it, but sure sounds like a lightning strike.

Probably had something similar to this, although this was a 50. Blew off the radome, through the bulkhead, into the nose gear.

Nope! He was tailgating an MD-80 all the way out. The 80 locked em up and taught him a lesson.
But wait. How could this impact be so great? MD-80’s never exceed 3 mph on taxi, do they?
