Anyone got hired at the ATL job fair
I wanted to attend but after giving it much thought and evaluating my bank account, I decided not to bother purchasing a plane ticket to ATL and then purchase a $129 ticket to get into a job fair where I am not guaranteed a job.
Is there any positive feedback from anyone who attended? What did airlines look for with applicants and did anyone land a flying gig? $129 is a nice bit of change to pay for a job fair so I am curious to know how things went with the participating companies recruiting. |
No idea but...

I didn't go, but I can tell you that job fairs NEVER guarantee you a job. You are paying for the networking. Some airlines interview on the spot, but you still have to get through it. Thinking a job fair will guarantee you a job is the wrong way to look at it. Its all about putting your face out there and networking.

Just apply to what ever regionals are hiring, save your money. If you meet their requirements i'm sure they will call you and most provide free travel to interview.
|
I agree with you 100%. However, if I am paying $129 for admission into a job fair. My expectations are going to be far different.
|
Paid $128 for it and I was disappointed. Will give the other guys a shot in Miami and see what happens.
On the other hand I saw GoJet hire some people after some on the spot interviews. |

I would not pay money to go talk to a regional recruiter
|
Heard that Spirt is going to interview 40-50 from the job fair .
|
FWIW, they are looking for 5000 TT as of now. I showed up to this last job fair with slightly over 4000 and was told thanks but no thanks. They did aknowledge that I did meet their requirements, plus 4 year college degree, masters degree, fliying experience in Central America, etc, but they are leaning more towards at least 5000TT at this moment...

Unless your times are low (less than 1100), you should be able to be swooped by a regional. Some are struggling to fill classes. If you are low time, don't bother and keep building as fast as possible.
Job fairs are beneficial in a tough market. They are at the point now where if your time is there, they will more than likely take you. Waste IMO. |
I agree with the above. Generally, if you're aiming at a regional, job fairs are a waste of time/money... If you got the minimum hours you'll get called... My.2 cents...

I'd pay $129 not to get hired by JoGets.

I didn't go to the ATL fair but went to a job fair in the summer of 2011, in Chicago. It was worth the time and money in my case. I gained several opportunities and ultimately a job I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. At the time I had less than 100 hours multi time which means my airline app would never have been seen by recruiters. Going to the fair allowed me to meet recruiters and give them my resume. I was offered formal interviews by three regionals. The one I work for now offered me a job as long as I got my multi time up to 100 hours, at which point they scheduled me a new hire class.

If you take a girl on a date are you only buying her dinner because she is guaranteeing you to get laid and a BJ? come on man, look at the economy and how many pilots are still out of work. You are just another example of the gimme gimme gimme generation. You don't want to pay the $129, I get that that I do not either, but you must realize nothing is guaranteed or owed to you. YOU HAVE TO EARN IT! I paid for to get the FE written and had to pay $75 just to apply to FedEx. I am out almost $350, I do not expect a call from FedEx anytime soon and now they do not have the the above requirements, just what you have to do sometimes to play the game. good luck! |

If you choose to spend $350 for a job, thats your business. I can care less. I hope you got hired......LOL. I have earned every dime I have in my bank account and every achievement I have sought out for. So go preach to someone else about earning things in life buddy. But never the less, my views are still the same when it comes to this topic about the jobs fairs. Are they worth the amount of money that is being charged for admission. Knowing the beginning salary of a regional airline pilot. My 2 cents |

FYI, I am not about "give me give me give me" or what other generation you are speaking about. I have my views and you have yours. However, I don't mind paying a fee for a job fair. But is a job fair worth paying $90-$129? Some companies decided at the last min not to attend and if I wanted to attend to specifically to meet a recruiter from that particular airline I am now screwed.

My 2 cents They can be beneficial, you can get lucky, if you are just looking for any job at all, it could be worth it, but I echo the idea of if they are worth it knowing the beginning salary of an airline pilot. |
I guess the answer is..if you go and get a job that you wanted...its worth it, if you go and don't... maybe its worth it, but if you dont go at all.....you may never know.
My thoughts are sorta like JNB..... it needs to be a full on job fair to be worth it ... if most of the companies are just screening resumes..... probably not...ymmv |

You did not, you stated thats a lot of money and not even guaranteed a job. That there says entitlement. I am frankly sick of it! I get it, its a lot of money and you should have asked if its worth the money to attend and how much success can one expect vs not attending. just my opinion. |
Anyone got hired at the ATL job fair
Well aviation is the messed up industry and most job fairs are employers offering free stuff and trying to get in the door but aviation is pilots offering money to get in the door and employers may not even be hiring
