TSA ..... share please

Hey Guys/Gals,

Anybody walked down the corridors of TSA lately going through an interview? If so, please share your thoughts - tricks played on you.... etc etc.

Please don't refer me to aviationinterviews.com - Been there, done that. I'm looking for personal notes, anything at all.... share if you feel like it.

Thx
-schone

For the written, know the ATP book chapters 1-8 and weather. Know jepp charts pretty well and don't be a dumbass! There was this one dumbass that told Ed Phelps that he is the most comfortable with the 727 and its systems. Ed is a captain of 6 years on the damn thing so he gave him 3 chances before he started asking systems questions. This kid did not get a single question right and I don't know if he got hired or not. He was a Perdue grad. FYI.

The only info I have on TSA is if anyone else besides Mesa is offereing you a Jet job... TAKE IT! I know a lot of people that have been screwed by the management at TSA, yet so many people (including guys i went to school with) are going there. I have not ever heard a single good thing about them. Be careful!!!

Perdue has chicken in Maryland, Purdue is a university in Indiana.

If what you say is actually true, then he didn't deserve to get hired, and is NOT representative of the many Purdue grads who currently or previously have worked at TSA. Where did you hear this story from?

So I misspelled a the name of a school. Sue me. I was in the jumpseat and I heard it from one of the three guys that was on that particular interview. I did not any implications about Purdue grads.

You should make some implications about Purdue grads... They have somewhat of a poor reputation in a few of the aviation circles I've been in, but i'm sure they are not all like that. They probably just make better astronauts than pilots.

My cousin is the second string QB this season... Go Boilers!

I merely stated facts.

Damn BoilerUp. Don't have an aneurism. Besides, everyone knows Tyson produces better chicken.

Yeah, a lot of people got screwed by the gojet happening, and there were some furloughs back in the spring. But they're hiring like mad now. I just started training and there will be at least one, more then likely at least 2 classes behind me. So at least I won't be sitting airport reserve for months. Theres I good chance the people in my class will have a line after a couple months of flying.

I'm not.

I don't deny there are some low-time pilots coming out of LAF with a bit of an entitlement mentality, and I know every training organization has their 2%, but I want to make sure its known that gross arrogance & ignorance is not representative of Purdue aviation alumni.

The 727 is an easy systems airplane (compared to an RJ), and if the person in question cannot answer basic systems questions about it after FOUR SEMESTERS of class, they definately don't deserve a 121 job.

I was unaware that line pilots sat in on interviews. My interview board consisted of Ed Phelps, Scott Mitchell, and the intern.

Well I am glad you know every single thing that goes on at every second. The guy was on the interview panel. Should I have witnessed the interview?

Theres nothing wrong with repeating hearsay; I just wanted to make the distinction between "fact" and "maybe fact".

Just out of curiosity, where do you draw the line between fact and hearsay?

flynavyj 11-13-2006 02:46 PM

everyone's going to RIC huh? buddy is interviewing tomorrow and is requesting RIC, so that should work sweat (if everything in the interview goes well) Everything that you've heard about TSA is probably true, good pilot group, bad management (or mediocore (sp)* at best) but heck, im just a guy who's working through IOE right now .

Have heard nasty things about what could be happening towards the gojet side of things, but...that's all hearsay too.

That's what I've heard, but I can't say for positive. Two of the guys from our class who left were RIC-bound, so they need two more right there. As far as everybody in the Nov class going, that's what I heard from a guy in the Oct class.

Everyone in Nov will be in RIC. We were told today that if we bid STL, we should have it in 2 or 3 months. I believe he meant once we actually start flying, not from now. I guess the Dec class has 28 and there is supposed to be a jan class of 15, so thats good news for the oct and nov class.

btwissel 11-14-2006 08:12 AM

crap, means i'll be commuting to RIC instead of STL, then. anyone know if there's any chance of STL?

btw, how do they do seniority within the training class? is it age, or SSN?

They go by the last 4 digits of the SSN. They say that you should bid on STL as soon as you can because stuff is always changing. I have a friend that is in the October class and got pushed out to RIC but he put in a bid for STL already.

flyerfly 11-14-2006 07:35 PM

I talked to Ed the other day when management came in with pizza. He said its possible to get STL back. They need us Oct guys out there till the Nov guys can fill the vacancy. He said it would normaly be about 2 months. Who knows...I know a few guys out there that despite management and all the DH-ing they like RIC. Maybe I will too. Oral tomorrow wish me luck!!!
