Sounds like a great mainline replacement for the DC9. Oh wait...

Skywest, Republic, Eagle, Delta... bunch of big RJ orders settled, in progress, or rumored. I thought the day of the RJ was gone.

When did Republic order RJs?

The seat count is going up, but that regional pay-scale isn't.

Come on, deal me an ace and every one of you will be captains, guaranteed!

50 seaters are done...all the orders are for 70+.

RJ's are disposable and will be wearing out in droves over the next ten years. Since fuel cost is such an issue with RJ's, it makes sense to buy new technology with lower fuel burn, if you can afford to.

If you can't afford new airplanes, you'll either have to fly new airplanes which mainline provides or, more likely, go out of business.

With all the concessions, many of those 50 seaters will be around at least another 5 years.

True, as sad as it is.

There's certain markets where the MBA/marketing suit types STILL need 8-10 fights a day, with NO mainline service. Yet doing it with 70-90 just isn't going to work.

Various places in SoCal, NorCal, LA, the northeast, the increasing markets in WY and MT, etc.

The 50 seater will have it's place, just not anywhere near the numbers of post 9/11 scope relaxation.

I don't think there's enough Q's to fill that gap, never mind it's MX issues. I don't think any U.S. carrier has orders for the new ATR's either. Both of which fall under DAL's, and UAL's TA scope sections I believe.
