Mesaba/Colgan Saab pilots...
In the interest of freeing up one 9E Captain seat, here is what seems to be a Direct Entry Captain position in the Saab 340 based at Chicago MDW and Waterford, MI (PTK airport). It's Pentastar Aviation, these are the same guys who have the contract with UM Survival Flight for 3 of the EC helicopters and 1 Citation. This Saab operation seems to be easy flying based on the description, 3 flights per day, 4 days per week.
Good luck. Pilot: SAAB 340 This position will be located in Chicago, Illinois and Waterford, Michigan. The individuals selected for these positions must live within 2 hours of the Base of Operations, Midway Airport, Chicago, Illinois or within 2 hours of the second Base of Operation, Waterford, MI. The successful candidates will perform duties for an operation that will conduct up to 3 flights a day, 4 days a week, on flight segments that will be approximately 1 hour in length. On days that the aircraft is not scheduled to fly, the aircraft and crew will be available for on-demand charter. The aircraft will be staffed sufficiently to permit regular days off and vacation. Other duties may include aircraft interior cleaning, passenger check-in and ID verification, baggage handling, and assisting passengers as necessary. As a pilot for Pentastar Aviation, crew members can expect to fly about 200 hours per year with little international travel. Qualifications •ATP Certificate •Minimum of 4,000 hours of Total Flight Time •Minimum 100 hours of time-in-type preferred •Bachelor’s degree preferred •SAAB 340 experience required •Ability to manage a changing work schedule •Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class medical certification This Position is Currently Open Pentastar is an Equal Opportunity Employer. •Please attach your resume and salary expectations in MS Word format. •* Indicates a required field. •Resumes without salary expectations will not be considered. Pilot: SAAB 340 : Pentastar Aviation |
That plane is always broken and the loads are terrible I doubt it lasts much longer. Heck I'd love to work for them since I live right next to MDW, but seeing what I see it's just not worth the chance.

I think it's for a travel company because the destination is a large tourist area that focuses on skiing golf lake activities etc. etc. It's called Lakeshore Express.
Lakeshore Express |
Also they market it as a hey connect to thousands of other cities well in MDW you land at the FBO on the south side of the field and then you would have to cab/shuttle it over to the terminal making it just a huge pain.

Oh man... This one isn't going to last long.
I do miss driving Ol' Blue to the hotel in Pellston... those were the days! |
N9CJ, at least we would feel at home in the old girl.

For those interested in the facts instead of 9CJ and her quirks. Good friend works there and Pentastar is top notch. Great people and they take care of their pilots.
But if you want to slug it out flying a shiny jet, by all means. thats only in da mounin' |

I've worked for Pentastar in the past. Class act company, great place to work. I'd still be there if my customer still needed their plane. If you wanna know what 9CJ really does, look it up on flight aware. That thing flies all the time.
|
Pentastar is a good company but what happens if this little business ordeal with the Saab goes tango uniform can you go to another airframe? Flight aware doesn't show it flying much. Looks like it averages a trip a day I applied but I doubt they will call when they see what my salary expectations were.

You mean what happens when this industry cannot make any Guarantees? We Call that life son. Whoooo whoooo |
Keep in mind this isn't an airline, it's a charter gig. I you wanna fly 6+ hours a day and build time quickly, this isn't your job. A charter plane that does a trip a day IS pretty busy. Put it in perspective.. If you were applying for a job flying a Citation or a Lear and it flew "pretty much a trip a day" you'd probably consider that a pretty busy charter schedule. It's easy to lose sight of that since this job is flying a Saab and you likely associate it with regional airline flying.
If you're working for Pentastar and your job disappears for some reason, you can apply for any open position on an internal basis, otherwise you get furloughed just like any other flying job. That's what happened to me and I had another job in less than two weeks. I don't know what the pay is for this position, but from what I've heard it's not a high paying job. Also, something to keep in mind.. Pentastar uses the senior pilot as the PIC, regardless of who is sitting in what seat and performing what duties. If you are the senior pilot, you will sign for the plane. If you are the junior pilot, you will sign the flight log as the SIC. Period. It's very clearly stated in the GOM. I only mention it because I didn't know that when I was hired. |
Mesaba/Colgan Saab pilots...
I understand its a charter company but if you're going to compare how many hours it flies compared to Lears and Citations lets take a look at compensation. As for being out of a job the risk would be worth it if they pay a solid wage but it doesn't appear to be that way.

I think in the past they were offering 60,000 for pic and 35,000 for sic. Not sure what your expectations are.
