5 hour drive?! That is much worse than a 2 legger IMO. 2 hours tops

Sigh... Commuting sucks. Go where you don't have to commute. Otherwise, it's still a giant guessing game. Though, you should ask yourself, why is the upgrade so much quicker at TSA? Could it be that no one wants to stick around? Moreover, if the OP won't have the newly required experience to upgrade in one year, what does it matter? By the way, don't mistake the fact that the most junior captain at SkyWest has been here for 6 years and take it to mean that it is a 6 year upgrade. We barely hired between mid-2007 and 2010. Once things start moving in earnest again, that "time to upgrade" will drop, granted not to 1 year, but that's because a lot of people are very happy here. YMMV.
Also if you want to stick around a regional you're doing it wrong. |

Neither one is worth it on first year pay at a regional. If you take the 5 hr drive option you will spend an entire paycheck on gas alone for the month. If you take the 2 leg commute you will never be home at all. Both options are awful.

I agree completely, just sayin the drive is worse than a 2 legger for numerous reasons. I did a 2 legger for 8 months, while it might have been the easiest one you could do, it still sucked but I would never drive more than 2 hours.

Don't forget that all commutes are not the same. There are routes that are a nightmare for commuters, specially when it's on another company. I have done DFW-MIA and DFW-ORD, not fun at all.

Take the one with 0 commute, or shortest commute, and offers the best QOL for what's offered.

Comparing SkyWest to Trans States is like comparing San Jose State College to UC Berkley. SkyWest is much more professional and is a much bigger operation. Since moving on is ultimately what you would like to do either one can get you to the next level. TSA is in upgrade fast mode because they got more 145's recently. They also have a furlough fast mode that happens when the opposite is true. Their operation is kmart cheap in every aspect. Not a bad way to go for fast time as long as everything holds out. SkyWest is a superior workplace in every way but upgrade is like the hot girl next to you in English class -never gonna happen... for now. |
