This statement is spot on. I have used them all, from M&H to Pilot House. A Cut Above is by far the best. One side note though....I ordered a couple of shirts from them about 6 months ago that were not the same quality that I was used to getting. I'm hoping that it was just a one time thing and not a trend towards using cheaper materials.
I noticed the same thing... they went from great quality to cheap, guess it's time to find a new source.:( |
Pilot House shirts are my current favorite (pilotshirts.com). Tapered, made in Canada. Good quality, and stand up well to repeated washing.
2nd choice Crewgear shirts. They also have a trim fit and good material. They used to be made in the USA, I believe that is no longer the case. They don't seem to last quite as long. Van Heusen is terrible. They look OK for a few weeks and then the thin material basically disintegrates from the washing machine. They also don't fit well on an athletic person. Stay far away. I've heard good things about Landerwood shirts, made in the USA, but they are not cheap and I haven't personally tried them. |

It really is too bad about A Cut Above's new Chinese crap quality. I had 2 shirts from a few years ago that lasted for a couple years. Eventually they started to yellow a bit, so I ordered some new ones. The quality is crap now. And its not just one bad batch. I returned several shirts for replacements, but all of them are breaking down after just a few washes.
I really loved their fabric, but unless the quality changes I will not spend another dollar on one of their shirts. |
I am happy for the timing of this thread. Was about to pull the trigger for the first time on A Cut Above. General consensus seems to be not worth it though, yeah?

I returned my CutAbove shirts because they didn't have the "flying pen1s" embroidery on the shoulder blades below the collar.
That, and the cut of the shirts was crap (couldn't raise arms without shirt untucking) as well as the fabric was impossible to iron flat. The collar with pad was nice though. PilotShirts.com |

Its amazing what washing and ironing can do for keeping a shirt presentable...to say nothing of using starch, or even an occasional drycleaning! |
