Would my David Clark 13.4's work in a cockpit of an ERJ?? Those new X11's are pretty sweet. Or do airline pilots use the lightweight type??

I think the metal one is worth it. I have heard and seen the plastic ones bend and break. The metal one is a little heavier but much tougher. Just think of it as less time you need to spend in the gym:D

I do keep a laptop in the pocket. Its well padded and I have never had an issue with it. Laptop has been riding in there for almost a year now with out any issues. I will say this, I have the wide-screen Dell Inspiron (great for watching movies) and it is a snug fit in the pouch. I do however take it out of the pouch when I check the bag but thats mainly because I don't trust the sticky fingered TSA or rampers. Still beats the hell out of having to carry an extra laptop bag.

I use a Sigtronics with no ANR in the ERJ and have no problems. We have David Clarks in the airplanes and I've used both and I like mine much better. Its much lighter, better noise reduction and I don't have to clean the AIDS off each time I jump in a new airplane. That being said, plenty of guys use the DC's with no complaints. Anyone that tells you you NEED ANR in a jet is trying to sell you something.

Mine's going into year 2 no problems so far (knock on wood). For a new hire to drop $300-$500 on a uniform, $200-$300 on luggage, and $200-$300 on a flight case is just beyond belief.

I paid $24 for a good "Outdoors" backpack from Academy that has a lifetime warranty. It's been 7yrs, 4 continents, and shoved in and out of tons of airplanes and still holds up. One of the nylon straps is starting to go bad, however, the company told me they'd replace it. Just think of it. You have have 10 of them that each hold just as much and have a longer warranty.

Yep, that's what we need. More pilots carrying backpacks around.

I heard certain flight cases don't fit in the ERJ. What are some examples of ones that do?

Never heard of flight case not fitting in the ERJ... Unless you got one thats freakishly long... The ERJ case hole is open on one side so if you get a flight case with wheels on it, itll fit. The CRJ on the other hand has a hole that is closed on all 4 sides so the wheels wont fit.

ok cool.....does XJT provide anything to you that you can buy from them? Is it better to buy it elsewhere?

You can buy the Travel Pro overnight bag through XJT but most people prefer to buy it elsewhere. While in training they take you over to the stopover store here in IAH and they have a wide selection of bags. I talked to other pilots to find out what they thought. As far as flight cases, there is more or less a standard size. I havent seen any with weird dimensions. In my opinion you shouldnt go cheap on the flight case any more than youd go cheap on your overnight bag. The last thing you need when you're on probation is a Jepp explosion as you're getting on the employee bus when you're running late for your show.
