Aside from a few friends at my current company, I don't know many pilots in the industry. Those with whom I am acquainted, I've generally know before I was ever flying at a 121 carrier.

At the risk of sounding like the kid on the playground with no friends, how can I effectively "get out there" and network? From what I've read, job fairs and casual conversations on the jumpseat seem to be the main methods.

In general, I feel that I am pretty outgoing and easy to get along with, but I just haven't met too many people. Who wants to be my friend?

I'll take a check but prefer cash. $500. Walk in resume and internal recommendation.

The thing is many airlines now have almost gotten rid of the pilot to pilot networking. Its all hr driven and to "network" means you need to be at the right job fairs.

If you want to work for Delta, move to Peachtree City GA, 90% of PTC is made up of Delta pilots. Hell the bartender at tavern on 74 is probably a Delta pilot..

Hey B, I'll do it for $400 Sorry Shy... lol

To the OP... how long have you been with the airlines? Most of the contacts I've had throughout the years have been guys that I flew with (from instructing and the regionals) that have eventually moved on to greener pastures. You always keep in touch with them and NEVER EVER burn bridges. It's a small aviation world.

I've been with the airlines for a little over two years and in aviation for 7.

My best networking tool has been my college's online directory. I was able to search for specific company names and professions. I wrote emails and was honest about asking for help/advice. I got about 60% response rate and of those responses I had some real solid leads that have really helped so far.
