This is very true. Ever since I left the regionals for the majors, I have realized that 'acting the part' is so huge in GETTING an interview and how you act AT an interview.

Most (not all) major pilots take pride in their uniforms for many reasons, including pure professionalism, not wanting to be the sloppy one in the crew, they care how the public perceives them, etc.

I'm a strong believer that if you want to move up in this industry you've gotta be professional. Just my 2 cents.

I agree 100%

Yeah cuz I'm gonna show up to the interview the same way I show up to my naps at night. Smh

That is what I see, including jumpseating on the regionals... guys act cool, fly cool and dress cool (to fit in?)... not professional... (not flying professional is the scary part!) maybe they want to be regional lifers... but the major/legacy interview prep starts the moment you decide you want the brass ring..... and being professional from that point onward...

You'd be surprised.

- Suit 3 sizes bigger, jacket sleeve literally covering his entire hand.
- Shoes untied.
- 3 day old uneven beard.

Saw these at interview for big boys. Yeah, I couldn't believe it either.

I saw a netjets pilot doing a preflight yesterday. He had earbuds in and was wearing a red tie not the blue netjets tie... You guys think he was legit? Or unprofessional? I also saw a hawker pilot do a preflight with his bose qc headset on....

Ear buds and a backpack are just tacky. Don't even get me started on putting your sunglasses through your epaulettes.

Nobody really cares how you look in a Signature or Atlantic...and trust me, the "Bluetooth to Pilot ratio" is way, WAY lower than I experienced working for a regional.

Pilots, regardless of their age or their place of employment, need to wear the uniform as dictated by their GOM. They need to learn how to use an iron to get wrinkles out, replace shirts that have stains on them, wear the tie in public (and *gasp* hat if the book says to), and realize:

1. I voluntarily accepted employment in this job
2. That employment includes dressing how I'm supposed to
3. I portray a professional image to non-pilot passengers.
4. Its okay to have a little pride in how you look

Whining "you get what you pay for" or "I'll dress and act professional when I'm paid as a professional" is an immature childish cop-out. Take responsibility for your own actions, fools.

Define professional? And the ability to enforce it.

Why doesn't anyone care how you look in Landmark? Or Atlantic? Last time I checked the people getting on G-V's are relatively successful and professional. Wouldn't this be the place to be well dressed?

But I guess you're argument is valid. It's almost like saying, no one cares how you look strutting through a terminal building...
