Some need to work on their appearance.

I am all for professionalism and maintaining a sharp, clean image. What else would you expect though when you compensate people at fast food wages?

Funny, Gojet is one of the worst offenders out there!

I expect the fast food workers to be neat and clean in their uniforms too :), at least out front where the public sees them as the face (representatives) of the company.
I expect some of our military's youngest enlisted who are on food stamps to be within regulations too.
Just looking for reasons to not be professional in your appearance on the job is just......well.....unprofessional.

I don't think wages are an excuse. A lot of the captains I see look awful. They're swimming in their uniforms. It's embarrassing, and not just a regional airline problem. You can always pick out foreign crews because they look so much sharper.

I was always told that the young, fresh, 1000 hour CFI turned RJ pilot's were the worst. I tend to notice they are one of the cleaner groups. There is this stigma about backpacks, ear buds and hair gel but I have seen only a VERY few select like that at my airline (and just walking around the airports).

The biggest offenders I actually see are the younger to middle aged 4-stripers. They have he back packs (but I'm an FFDO!), no ties (or half tied tie), ear buds (or worse... Beats headphones), and a shirt that looked like the rolled it up in a ball and drove over it with a steam roller.

I wholeheartedly agree, but I was just playing devil's advocate. Sadly a lot of folks measure their feeling of importance to the company by their paycheck.

The 'pay me like a professional and I'll act like a professional' mantra will soon come out.
I doubt it is true. I'd be willing to bet that those who would look unprofessional (and that definition is up for discussion I suppose - I'll try to use a simple rule of measure - IAW company regulations), will still look unprofessional with any pay increase along the path to *success* .

I guess some have never heard of "dress for the job you want not the job you have!" Goes a long way.
