Great idea! I'll start wearing $6,000 Italian suits then maybe someone will mistake me for an airline exec and give me tens of millions in unearned bonuses.

Leave it to a go jet pilot to start a topic like this.

Self-esteem shows. Or the guys wearing dockers instead of uniform pants. Are you serious? |
Have you guys seen the new United Uniforms? The quality is bottom of the barrel, 1970's wide ties, hat brass that way too big for the hat, and overall look that says "look at me! I'm a circus monkey!". It's apparent that United doesn't care about pilot appearance, why should the pilots?

Lets see how mainline looks after flying 5-6 legs a day for 4-5 days straight. Bet you come out looking like Sharkisha punched you in the face. I'm just saying...the workload is different when comparing the two.

Mainline Delta excluded, it's about the same across the board between the appearance of regional pilots and mainline. If you argue with this, then you're wanting to believe something that isn't true. I jumpseat and travel on everybody, there are a ton of regional pilots that take the care in their appearance, as well as mainline.
Some of you have stated that one's pay should have no correlation to their appearance. I make less than some rampers... I just got my full uniform dry cleaned... the tab was close to $20. I can't even afford to tip the van driver a dollar. On a typical four day that would be 8 dollars... four four days a month makes it $32. I'm a commuter, back on first year pay after five years in Part 121. I wish I could go online and punch in my credit card number to buy new uniform shirts. Instead, I just wrote a check for 10% of my monthly salary on a crash pad for next month. So, I iron what I can and do what I can to stay fit and in shape. But you're crazy if you're going to comment on my uniform for what I get compensated because I'm trying... and if you don't like it then you're just an awful person. And if you bring that attitude on the flight deck, and you're going to give some guy a hard time because his shirt is wrinkled or he has a little 5 o'clock shadow then YOU're the guy nobody wants to fly with... and if you don't believe me, then that's a testament to just how right that statement is. |

Been there, done that... Up to 7 legs a day. Made sure I looked sharp still.
