I hear SKW is a great company and all - but in the state of the industry why go to the bottom of the totem pole at a regional just because you aren't happy and face a 6-7 year upgrade??

Home Depot pays $10-$25 an hour and it's home based...

Home Depot doesn't pay anything close to $10-$25/hr and has very few full time employees in the store. I know because I used to work there.

But to answer your question, FOs are jumping ship from "legacy" regionals like ExpressJet because they've realized they will never upgrade as we retire airplanes with no replacements, and Captains begin to displace to the right seat. Contrary to popular opinion, unless you're an intern or a chief pilot's kid, you're not getting hired at a mainline carrier without turbine PIC time. Places like GoJets, Compass, and Mesa still have reasonable upgrade times. Up and out.

This is false. I've known more than a handful.

This is the airlines we're talking about. It's not likely but that could change next week, and wouldn't you want to be as qualified as possible? TPIC could be the difference between getting hired at A legacy versus having an option of say two or three.

Yes they do. I worked there from 2002-2008 and I STARTED at $10/hr. There are many full time employees in the stores and even part-timers get benefits such as sick/vacation time and health coverage. My wife still works there and makes the top end of your quoted scale, plus 150% pay for OT beyond 40 hrs/wk and 8 hrs of extra pay for every holiday that the store is open. And again, she is home every night!

if you want a really fast upgrade. apply at 9e and tell them that you worked at Colgan. you will instantly jump 1000 or so first officers. when you fly with these 6 or 7yr first officers you will talk about your new house. how youre mad that you can't get all weekends off. after you rub it in his face for 2 days you're confused when he won't go have a beer with you.

If you're not well connected you're not getting hired even with TPIC.

I work at ExpressJet, in Jan we had 81 pilots leave. 40 captains and 41 first officers. Of the 81 only 1 went to another regional, the majority went to major airlines.

I'd go to OO and wait for that 6 yr upgrade... It's mainline baby! ;)

I went to a regional with a long upgrade time but it's one where I could remain happy if another 9/11 happens and it takes me 25 years to be hired by a major. Most of the quick upgrade regionals at the time would have made me miserable if I got stuck there.

People who chase a fast upgrade are the ones who are most upset and miserable when it doesn't happen. People who pick a company because they like the company culture or contract won't be so upset when they get stuck for 10 years.

Until that company is dragged through 2 lousy bankruptcies and a God awfully horrible merger, end up with that garbage contract anyway, have years of seniority stolen and find themselves back in the right seat 9 years in (for 4 year pay no less)

Gojet, compass and Mesa? How about PSA? :)
Very fast upgrade so they say.
Same for TSA?
