Who will apply to Delta?

Great news that they're about to crank up hiring. Is the lineup going to be long from the regional quarters?

I ask because these new hires could be furloughed if a merger with US Airways did occur.

This could be a ploy from management- based on the faulty assumption that Delta stays unmerged going forward.

There minimums aren't that high at all. I would think that they would be getting a rush of applications in the next few days! Looks like the regionals are once again going to start feeling the drain. They already need pilots due to attrition and some for expansion, but a mass exodus to the majors would hurt kind of much there, eh? I know that there wouldn't be a mass exodus, but you know what I mean.

How much do you want to guess that the first fifteen classes are friends of management, check airmen, and other high ups?

Not that there's anything wrong with that ;)

Yeah, the regionals have been in a pinch, and it'll only get worse in '07.

It might be a ploy, but that is the chance I will take. Delta is also not the only airline out there.

The pilot shortage I have long predicted is starting to manifest itself.

Well, what goes around comes around. I can remember having an argument with someone a year or so ago about the 'thousands' of pilots on the street and that no airline would be hiring for probably 10 years.

I told him him how many furloughed pilots from the Legacy carriers had found new airlines or left the industry. Retirements and other attrition, plus the fact that only a fraction of the furloughed pilots would return would lead to a shortage in the not-so-distant future. I still believe that.

Waiting for Boyd to call!!! :D

I already did. I don't meet the Turbine mins, but, I want show them I'm interested and I do have an internal Rec. We'll see what happens.

flybywire44 12-20-2006 09:20 PM

Who said minimums are not high? Neither are Continentals, but whats competitive?

acl65pilot 12-21-2006 04:24 AM

I talked to one of the pilots that will be doing the selecting and interviewing when they start up later next month. There will be a ton of friends and family that get the first nod. They are also going to call all the guys and gals in that had class dates, but that were cut after the new contract was signed in July of '01. This is about 60-70 guys and gals. Those interviews are going to be fairly informal. After that they will start to look at the true pool. From what they told me 2000-3000 turbine PIC min and at least 5000 hrs. There will always be exceptions. Military guys and gals will get a nod with a few internals and 2000 hrs. That is just the way that it is. The guy they have at the helm is an ex Delta pilot. He is looking for the same type of people that they have always hired. In 07 they are projecting 120 new hires. 08 is looking to be around 300 or more. They even told me that this could change at a moments notice because of their recall clause.
Frankly I am very well connected with 10 internal recs on file the first day this thing opened and their best guess is a mid summer interview.
Hope ths helps....

It's not about what you know or how many hours you have. It is all about who you know. Always has been, and always will be. Makes it an uphill battle for myself, but I will still try.
